They should have tried to convince Bobby Petrino to come there. He's already had success in the state of Kentucky and in the SEC

Prior to the start of the 2012 season, Bill Curry announced that he would be both stepping down as Georgia State's head coach and retiring from coaching period at the end of the football year.

Georgia State has named Indiana State head coach Trent Miles as their new head coach. He will be leading the Panthers to their first season in FBS football in 2013 as a member of the Sun Belt.

Interesting. I was talking about this hire with a friend and he said the GSU brass was talking to or about Shane Beamer. We both LOL'd, and I said they needed to go after someone young who could produce a high scoring offense in order to attract fan support. I don't know anything about Trent Miles but they played Indiana competitively earlier in the year and it sounds like he's a good start-up guy.

Miles, a former assistant at Stanford, Notre Dame and Washington, led Indiana State to a 7-4 record this year, his third straight winning season at the school.

Indiana State had won only one game in three seasons before Miles' arrival in 2008. He was the Missouri Valley Football Conference coach of the year in 2010.

Georgia State is moving to the Sun Belt Conference in 2013.

Butch Jones would be a huge win for Colorado or Purdue, though I doubt either is enough of a jump to justify leaving Cincinnati just yet. (Though I guess the AQ status will help sway that.)

I hate that it didn't work out with Skip, but, the performance over the last two seasons by a roster that has talent was unacceptable. I just hope Asiantii Woulard stays committed. Right now, all of the assistant coaches are still on staff and continuing with recruiting efforts and off-season schedules as planned.

Hearing some early names of possible candidates for USF:

                          - Willie Taggart
                          - Houston Nutt
                          - Tommy Bowden

The only one I would want out of those three would be Taggart. Obviously, this is a list of preliminary, and only possible, candidates. I am sure we will hear a lot more names as the process moves forward.

Huge at the last two names. I heard Nutt mentioned earlier on twitter but didn't take it seriously, is there much legitimacy to that buzz or is it just message board conjecture?

Taggart would be a great get of course.

PC just ended. AD Doug Woolard is starting right now in terms of collecting names. Each of the current assistants on staff are free to apply...if they wish. I think those names are on a preliminary list. Names that generated more from a brain-storming session rather than actual candidates that will make the interview list. I think Taggart has a very real shot of coming here though. He has a history of recruiting in Florida and he has had some great success - so that will bode well for him.

I don't think Taggart will leave WKU just yet. It's his alma mater and he's finally turning the program around
