I don't even know if he is a legitimate candidate yet. He should be, but, right now there is nothing definitive. I would say that a newly opened $100 million athletic facility and one of the best practice facilities in the country (I know its USF, they possibly couldn't have anything top-notch because they aren't a top-notch program...but it is) and the fertile Florida recruiting base, and I think Taggart might be compelled to listen to an offer. He could be a guy that finally takes this program to the next level. Kids go for flash these days. USF has excellent facilities and a lot to offer. The record sucks, but, the talent is there. Hence, why the HC was just fired. I'm not saying Taggart would be offered, will be interviewed, etc. But, I think he would definitely have an interest if USF reached out.

Idaho hires Paul Petrino.
Arkansas offensive coordinator Paul Petrino has been hired as the head coach at Idaho, a source has told ESPN's Joe Schad.
Arkansas Razorbacks offensive coordinator Paul Petrino has been hired as the head coach at Idaho, sources told ESPN on Sunday.
Petrino, brother of former Razorbacks coach Bobby Petrino, was en route Sunday to the school in Moscow, where a formal introduction was planned, a source said.
Petrino has coached the Arkansas offense for one season after two seasons in the same position at Illinois.
Idaho fired coach Robb Akey in October with the team 1-7 and coming off a blowout loss. The Vandals finished 1-11 and 1-5 in the WAC under offensive coordinator Jason Gesser, who had been promoted to interim coach.
Idaho is a member of the Western Athletic Conference, which won't have enough members to compete in football beyond this season. The school already has plans to play as an independent starting next season.Comment

...and Asiantii Woulard decommits from USF. LB/DE Mitchell Wright though is still on-board. Saying he "gave his word" to USF.Maddon & Friedman: Pissing off the AL East since 2008

I hate that it didn't work out with Skip, but, the performance over the last two seasons by a roster that has talent was unacceptable. I just hope Asiantii Woulard stays committed. Right now, all of the assistant coaches are still on staff and continuing with recruiting efforts and off-season schedules as planned.
Hearing some early names of possible candidates for USF:
- Willie Taggart
- Houston Nutt
- Tommy Bowden
The only one I would want out of those three would be Taggart. Obviously, this is a list of preliminary, and only possible, candidates. I am sure we will hear a lot more names as the process moves forward.
Their ability to recruit Florida well has fallen off since...Leavitt knew the turf. You gotta be savvy to do what he was doing, pulling the players he was pulling from the big three and the middle tier commodities that other teams tried to poach.
You don't just come from somewhere outtathewoodwerks and do that at a school like USF, regardless of the awesome new facilities.
Point really being, they need to find a guy that knows the lay of the land in the state of Florida and knows how to recruit it...Houston Nutt lol, Tommy Bowden lol...would be really poor hires. They can sell an AD though, and I guess that is all that matters.
Taggart would be ok...he has done a good job at WKU...he's a guy that you want to have around for more than three years, so I am not sure USF is good for him...they will want to win the Big East in 2 years.
Some out of the box names I think would be good hires.

They should re-hire Leavitt.

Much like you, I am not big on Houston Nutt or Tommy Bowden. We'll see the list sort itself out and then we'll get a better sense of what Woolard is looking for (i.e. strong recruiter, name recognition, HC experience, etc.)
I don't see Leavitt even wanting to come back. There is some pretty deep wounds between himself, President Judy Genshaft and AD Doug Woolard. Plus, I don't see them wanting him back.Maddon & Friedman: Pissing off the AL East since 2008
