And if I were Georgetown, Providence, Seton Hall, St. John's etc. I would be talking to the Atlantic 10 right about now, or leaving these bozos completely to form a new hoops-only league.

Oh well in that case. At first I was worried they'd be playing in some rinky dink second-rate arena, and here they go proving me right.

So the Big East reacts to being called a conference with bad football teams by going out and adding more bad football teams. Brilliant!

The hoops only catholic schools (Georgetown, Providence, St John's, Seton Hall, Villanova, Marquette, DePaul, plus Temple who joins next year) have talked quietly about breaking off, but the hang up is that they want the rights to the Big East name and the contract with MSG for the Big East Tournament.

Whatever this sham of a football league has become should just give up the Big East name to the basketball schools to preserve what little tradition remains in the name. There was never any tradition involved on the football side anyway, and whatever did exist is gone now.

Those eight should get the name, the tournament, and cut their own TV deal.

Makes me sick to my stomach.

The interesting thing about all of this, is that the Big East northeast base doesn't even care about college football. The league was started as a basketball league, and football tore it all down. The Big East Tournament is a much bigger deal in New York than goofy Syracuse or UConn football games, or even BCS Bowl games. People don't talk college football this time of year at the water cooler in that part of the country, they talk about NFL, Big East college basketball, & the Knicks.

Agreed. But then what would we call the "new" bastardized form of the Big East? I think I have an idea.

                        How about this spin:

Last four Big East markets lost: Morgantown, Piscataway, Pittsburgh, Syracuse

Last four Big East markets gained: Houston, Memphis, Dallas, New Orleans

As an alumnus of a current member-school my only thought is when the hell do we escape from this conference? It is actually a bit embarrassing.
