Eagles Release Jason Babin, Place DeSean Jackson On IR

    Rotoworld

    Eagles waived DE Jason Babin.

The Phillies have won a game more recently than the Eagles, who are three points removed from a winless season. This moves tells us the organization is turning the page on the 2012 season, seeking more playing time for Brandon Graham and 2012 second-rounder Vinny Curry. A Pro Bowler in 2010 and 2011 with 30.5 sacks, Babin has long been a liability against the run and was underwhelming as a pass rusher (5.5 sacks) this season. The Titans have moved on from their wide-9 scheme, but the Lions or Bengals could be interested in the 32-year-old.
Eagles placed WR DeSean Jackson (ribs) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Jackson fractured two ribs on a reverse in the first quarter of Monday night's loss to the Panthers. It caps another wildly disappointing campaign for D-Jax, who signed a five-year, $47 million contract last March. He ends up with 45 catches for 700 yards and two touchdowns in 11 games and was allowed to return just one punt all year. A straight-line speedster that rarely goes over the middle, Jackson has just two 100-yard performances in his last 22 outings. With Michael Vick likely gone and Nick Foles looking shaky at best, it's hard to be excited about Jackson's 2013 outlook.

Keeps getting worse and worse....only 3 projected offensive starters aren't injured.

I think a good number of teams could add Babin. He's strictly a pass-rusher now, and this late in the season, that's all you need. He doesn't have to learn any intricacies of a playbook, just line him up and have him bring the pressure.

This is good for him and the team. A contender will pick up Babin and the Eagles can give their younger guys more playing time.

One trick pony. Product of the wide 9. Only wants to go after the quarterback and literally just stands there "engaged in his block" on running plays. The guy has a terrible attitude and was a career journeyman before Washburn found him. I feel bad for the team that claims him and has to pay him over a million dollars for 5 games.

Honestly Obst, you're being too emotional. He has 30 sacks in the past two years. You can bash Babin, but 30 sacks are 30 sacks.

The problem is that most of the contenders are running a 3-4 base defense which would be awful for Babin.

He's not even an Eagles fan, how is he being too emotional?

Babin is everything Obst said he was. He wouldn't even be in the league anymore if it weren't for Jim Washburn in 2010. I think he could contribute somewhere else possibly, but his numbers are nothing more than a smokescreen at this point.

Only groaning you for revenge, but Babin had 18 sacks last season. I don't care if Sheldon Cooper is is D-co-ordnator, I take those sacks.

despite all the injuries and turmoil the giants will still find a way to lose to this team

Who really cares if a pass rusher like him doesn't play the run, that's why you don't ask him to, put him in your third down/passing down packages and let him rush the passer. I don't watch many Eagles games so I may be wrong, but I don't know how a guy with the numbers he has recently can't help a team as strictly a third down rush end.

Vince Young isn't there anymore. You should be alright.
