Andy Reid pushes another coach under the bus

The Philadelphia Eagles have fired defensive line coach Jim Washburn.

The Eagles announced the move Monday morning, one day after the team lost its eighth straight game -- a prime-time 38-33 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night.

Tommy Brasher, who coached the Eagles defensive line in 1985 and again from 1999 to 2005, will replace Washburn.

"Jim is a fine football coach and we appreciate the efforts he gave to this team over the past two years," said head coach Andy Reid in statement released by the team. "However, I determined that it was in the team's best interest that we move in a different direction in terms of trying to maximize the production of that position group. We look forward to having Tommy Brasher back on board to work with the defensive line."

It was the second major midseason shakeup on the Eagles' coaching staff this year: Former defensive coordinator Juan Castillo was fired in October and replaced by Todd Bowles.

Washburn was reportedly unhappy with Reid's decision to cut pass rusher Jason Babin last week.

Washburn was in his second season with the Eagles. He was Tennessee Titans' defensive line coach from 1999 to 2010.

    The Eagles are 3-9.

This is stupid. Didn't he hand pick this staff in this off-season? I've been a Reid supporter for many seasons but there is no way he'll coach the Eagles in 2013.

Why is he so desperate ?
He has pedigree , hell easily find a job somewhere else. Theres nothing to improve there and pinning blame on others will just make him look petty.

Remember when his defense was ranked in the top 5 in like every possible category at the beginning of the season, but the offense was only putting up like 16 PPG. So he cut the DC and now the offense still sucks and now they are awful on defense. Smart coach.

I wonder what the rest of the coaches are thinking about right now. Obviously, it's whether or not they will have a job after the next game, and not fully on preparing for that next game. Absolutely stupid to fire Washburn right now, and just more reason for Reid to be gone from Philly.
