Norv Turner & AJ Smith To Be Fired

    Rotoworld

Team sources tell the Union-Tribune San Diego that Chargers owner Dean Spanos plans to fire both coach Norval Turner and GM A.J. Smith at season's end.

According to long-time Chargers reporter Kevin Acee, Spanos has "resigned himself to the fact that Smith can't be kept in the current environment of plummeting performance and fan unrest," and that plans to can both Turner and Smith are "already in motion." Spanos was widely expected to replace his football brain trust last season, but had a last-minute change of heart. Per Acee, "it seems certain" that will not be the case this time around. Spanos is reportedly planning to replace Smith with current Chargers Director of Player Personnel Jimmy Raye.

It's about damn time. Both are good football minds, but need a change of scenery. Turner should just about be an OC in my mind, but I can still buy AJ Smith as a GM for another team.

Not going to believe this, even after it actually happens I expect them to be rehired.

Should have been done years ago. Turner took one of the most talented rosters in the NFL when he got the job and underachieved for years.

Turner is fine I think, but I don't know about Smith. I'm having trouble remembering the last good decision that dude made.

You also have to realize the giant cluster that this organization has been the past two seasons. Both should have been gone two years ago, and have been embroiled in a power struggle since Day 1.

Oh I agree. I remember when Marty was forced out because of lack of playoff success...and then they brought in Turner.

Had to go full circle, after Marty replaced Turner in Washington and finished 8-8 after starting 0-5.

Now all I have to do is figure out how this goes full circle for Steve Spurrier.
