Cardinals Have Had Discussions About Firing Whisenhunt

    Rotoworld

Mike Jurecki of XTRA Phoenix reported this past Monday that the Cardinals have had "internal discussions" about replacing Ken Whisenhunt with defensive coordinator Ray Horton as head coach.

It would be one way for GM Rod Graves to try to save his neck. Whisenhunt is an offensive mind, and it has been the Cardinals' offense torpedoing the team's season in 2012. Horton, a terrific defensive coach from the Dick LeBeau tree, could buy Graves one more year of swinging and missing at offensive linemen and quarterbacks. Coming off Sunday's embarrassing, 58-0 loss to the Seahawks, this Monday might make sense as the day to target for Graves to make the switch.

Whiz should be fired before this embarrassing loss, and this just cements it in my mind. I would not replace him with Horton. He and Darnell Dockett had a falling out two weeks ago, and led to a huge, six digit fine on Dockett which he is appealing on Horton saying the team should give up a TD to the head coach.

It's a pretty awful situation in Arizona any way you slice it, and I am not even sure Graves can keep his job at the end of the season.

Has he been that bad a head coach or is it just the fact their QB situation is sooooo bad?

Maybe he should trade for Tebow. That seems to have helped the Jets tremendously.

If not for Kurt Warner, Whisenhunt would have been fired long ago. Remember when people thought Pittsburgh was stupid not to hire him to replace Cowher and instead took Tomlin?

As Marshawn Lynch's owner in my fantasy football league, I approve of this loss.

Whisenhunt might be part of the issue, but let's be honest - that team has a high school level offensive line. When Kolb was healthy, he could scramble every so often ... with Skelton and Lindley, not so much.

IMO, firing Whisenhunt doesn't replace that O-Line. Give Arizona an ok O-Line, and we wouldn't call for Whisenhunt to be fired.

Anytime a team losses 9 in a row, capped off by a 58-0 drubbing, people should be fired.

From what I understand, Wisenhunt has final say in all personnel decisions, but the GM is probably going to get fired too.

Cardinals president Michael Bidwill says Ken Whisenhunt will remain the team's head coach for the remainder of the season.

Bidwill added that there is much blame to go around and that there will evaluation from top-to-bottom after the season. He did say the 58-0 shellacking from the Seahawks on Sunday was "unacceptable," but Bidwill didn't want to make a decision based on "emotion." Whisenhunt has been at the mercy of GM Rod Graves' terrible decisions at quarterback in recent years, and it's hard to place the full blame on the head coach. After starting the season 4-0, Arizona has lost nine straight. It's hard to picture Whisenhunt being back in 2013, though.

I think in this case, you need to make a decision based off emotion. Making a decision based off emotion following a 58-0 loss, I can see it. But you also need to factor in losing nine straight. The bottom has fallen out of this team, and firing Whisenhunt at this point is not a decision based off emotion. It's giving your players a kick in the ass to get their game together for the final three games and play for their spot on the roster with a new coach.

9 in a row is a walk in the park for Paris Lenon. He lost 16 in a row before.
