According to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora, the feeling around the NFL is that the Eagles will make a "heavy push" to land Oregon's Chip Kelly as Andy Reid's head-coaching replacement.

It's been no secret for months that Kelly is heading to the NFL in 2013. The Ducks' season ends after the Fiesta Bowl on January 3, and league sources tell La Canfora the Eagles will be among the first -- if not the first -- team to schedule an interview with Kelly after the game. Winning the Kelly sweepstakes could potentially rekindle the Eagles' interest in retaining Michael Vick. Kelly's high-speed, high-volume spread offense is quarterbacked by an athletic distributor of the football who presents a dual-threat dilemma for defenses.

Eagles fans and organization, be careful what you wish for. I feel the Eagles are teetering on the brink of falling into a multi-year slump of crap. I'm not sure Kelly is going to transition well, and personally I think they should keep Reid. Even Don Shula had some down years, you simply cannot expect division titles every year for nearly 2 decades. I think too much change now in a strong division could cause chaos.

Reid has just lost control of that locker room. Sure, you could clean it out, but you still have to retain some players and the confidence in Reid, from the fan base all the way to the top, is now gone. As a Redskins fan, I would love for the Eagles to keep Reid, but if they want to improve, a change has to be made.

I do agree with not knowing how Kelly will transition, and college coaches don't have a track record of effectively coming into the NFL and succeeding. I'm sure the Eagles saw the disaster that the Redskins had with Steve Spurrier, and they should know better than most to avoid that.

Ugh....as an Eagle fan I am worried. I don't know much about Chip Kelly but a have a very bad feeling any new coach that comes into the organization is going to have a rough time of it, here's why: There is no one in the organization that can effectively evaluate talent. Any head coach walking into the job should ask 1. Who was responsible for the last 3 years worth of drafts? and 2. Are the same people in charge of #1 still responsible for obtaining talent via the draft and free agency?

If the answer is "Yes" to question #2, I would be hesitant about taking the job. The current GM is a cap guy (i.e. accountant/lawyer) and is not a player personnel guy - Andy Reid filled that spot and we know his record for draft and free agent signings (poor, of late). If I were Jeff Laurie, I would do the same things the Jets are looking to do - move the current GM back to his best position as a Cap Guy, hire a proven GM (or even a guy with substantial promise as a GM with a background in player personnel), and let him pick his coach. Hiring a coach without fixing the talent acquisition problem only solves half the problem.

Another issue that hiring a GM might address is the glaring holes at certain positions the Eagles always seem to have. For example, the Eagles played 3 seasons without a middle linebacker, drafting OLB's and trying to "plug them in" before trading for Ryans from the Texans. They still continue to play without a FS / SS and haven't been able to land a consistent starter since Brian Dawkins left for Denver. And don't get me started on the OL - It's been crap since Tra Thomas and John Runyan left - And Andy has continued to waste draft picks on OL players that are busts.....There are holes that persist year after year and never seem to be addressed in any meaningful way.

They ran Joe Banner out of town, which was a huge mistake as far as player development goes. For at least the past year, they railroaded decisions through and bypassed Banner. It will be interesting to see what he does with the Browns in leading them, as it will prove who was ultimately behind the Eagles success during the past decade.

Not sure if Chip Kelly is the answer, but it's time for a change for the Eagles and Andy Reid. Reid will get a job somewhere else and will be successful. It's time for the Eagles to do the same.

Jim Tressel got a 5 year show cause for a cover-up... and there is evidence that Chip Kelly orchestrated an elaborate cover-up in this situation. In addition, Oregon is likely to get slapped with a LOIC or a FTM. IF that happens, then you can pretty much kiss at least one year of post-season participation goodbye.

It's going to be more than a few lost scholarships.
