he would probably need 2 to 4 more good years to be a Hof candidate...compared to Curtis Martin

Martin will be a hall of famer, Jackson won't, even though Jackson is the much better player.Comment

I didn't say he was a lock Hall of Famer. I said he should be a lock Hall of Famer, because there is no question in my mind that he is an all time back. I also said that he will never get in, because I understand how the pro football hall of fame works, and i'll leave that point at that.

For those who weren't paying attention earlier this year; Curtis Martin is already in the Hall of Fame. Emmit, Walter Payton and Barry are the only people to rush more than him...phenomenal career, and he did it in 10 seasons
Without Jackson getting 2 more 1,000 yard seasons on a more high profile team, Jackson doesn't even sniff HofF contention, and deservedly so. Not an all-time great back when you sit down and start listing people off the top of your head who made a significant mark in the NFL......unless you are a Rams homer.Comment

Jackson is a much better player than Curtis Martin. Martin did nothing on the football field better than Jackson. If you disagree, I question how much you watched Jackson and assume your just looking up numbers.Comment

Which is silly, because what he does from this point forward doesn't make him better or worse overall as a player, unless he does something crazy like lead the league in rushing at age 31 or something. That's part of the problem with the Hall of Fame in many sports.
"Well, i'm not convinced this 40 year old baseball player is hall of fame material. If he hits 19 more HR's after he's washed up to get to 500, he's in though!"
Stupid.Comment

Part of the problem with the Hall of Fame is the "high profile team" part. I agree that it matters (it shouldn't) and I agree that's why Jackson won't get in.

Because subjective observation always helps people win over others opinion on a subject.....Who gives a shit if Jackson is bigger than Martin, can run faster, or has better hands..physically. Martin worked it (and this coming from a rival of both his teams). He did in his first three years half of what Jackson has done in 10. Martin's collection of work is better than Jacksons over his first 8 years. In 10 years (his full career) like Jackson, Martin has 4,000 more yards from scrimmage and almost 40 more TDs. But what the fuck does looking up hard facts mean when you can watch Jackson play on TV right now and say he can do things better than Martin ever could. Being a division rival fan, I watched all of Martin's career, and looking up stats or not, he was a better player than Jackson, even if he wasn't as muscular or as fast.
*Martin fist pumps f16harm*

Anybody who says "just because he played relativity healthy, consistent football doesnt mean he is a HOFer" is clearly just glancing at a stat sheet and has no understanding of how good of a player he was/is. Adrian Peterson & LT were better. Nobody else was during his era.
anyone who claims jackson is a no brainer for the hof is clearly a homer who has no real understanding of what it takes to be a HOF player. he certainly did not have a HOF career thus far and is not a no brainer....after all, if he was a no brainer then it wouldnt even be a point of discussion. he had 1 good year and several mediocre years. yeah, that makes him ....
which is it? should he be a no brainer or will he never get in....you seem rather indecisiveComment

who said you said he was a lock HOFer? you said he was a no brainer HOFer.

I said he should be a lock hall of famer, but that he will never get in.
I'm not surprised you can't distinguish between those two points, because you're easily the most dense, stupid m'fer on this forum.Comment

My point, is that stuff shouldn't matter, but I understand fully that it does.
f16harm even brings up that Jackson needs two 1,000 yard seasons with a high profile team to get consideration, as if 1,000 yard seasons with the Packers are somehow more valuable than 1,000 yard seasons with the Rams. Why should that matter? But it does, and it's stupid.
He even brought up SB rings, which is the lowest of the low when discussing HOF resumes, so you can see where his head is at.
If Jackson had the exact same career on a winning team, we wouldn't be discussing this. He'd be a no brainer in everybody's mind.Comment

I would argue he has Hall of Fame caliber numbers right now, and if you are stat obsessed his book isnt finished being written.
Since i'm just a Rams homer who has no understanding of what it takes to be a hall of fame player, why don't you look up how many backs have rushed for 1,000+ yards in 8 or more consecutive seasons, to see how small the list is, and what the names are. Then tell me how many of those players are all time greats (hint: all of them), and tell how many played for teams as pathetic as the Rams have been during Jackson's years (hint: none of them).
itt: a couple of people who have no perspective of NFL history, or how good Jackson has been while playing for pathetic teams.
If you want to tell me he's not a Hall of Famer, fine. But you'll have a hard time convincing me it's because of production or his skill level. It has everything to do with his low profile career due to the historically pathetic teams he played for.
If your criteria is playing in big games and winning SB's, you aren't alone, but in my opinion you are using the wrong criteria.
I'd also like you to be completely honest and tell me how many times you watched him play. I have a hard time believing you are sitting in Cleveland watching Rams football. Same for f16harm. He played against the Browns & Dolphins very few times. You guys are breaking down a player you hardly ever (if ever) saw play.Comment

fyi, Jackson has more total yards than 20+ HOF running backs. He will pass OJ Simpson in total yards later today. If he plays next year he will most likely pass Simpson, John Riggins, Franco Harris, and Jim Brown, and if he plays two more years he will likely pass all of those guys plus Eric Dickerson, and will have a legit shot at catching Tony Dorsett & Thurman Thomas.

saying he should be a lock is a statement to what his status should be...meaning he will never get in because (you) believe he should be a lock, but nobody else agrees.
saying he is a no brainer is a statement to what you feel others should think....meaning that you are of the opinion that the decision to put him in as a HOFer shouldn't even be a point of thought - ie: "no brainer"....following that with "he will never get in" is a contradiction. if he is a no brainer, then he would get in.
i understand your need to rethink your thinking based on being made to look foolish by me. its a common occurance that challenges your feelings of stature on this forum forcing you to become angry in your replies to try and make yourself feel better about your pathetic life. I get it warner and its ok.
But next time you want to claim someone is stupid or dense, you might want to educate yourself first.Comment
