What you suggested is utterly ridiculous and filled with 20/20 hindsight nonsense.
The doctor cleared him, he's the starter, he plays. If you want to argue that he should have come out late in the game when they were down big and it was obvious he couldn't bring them back, fine. But to yank him while up 14-0 is nonsense.Comment

Nobody is going to take their QB out of the game up 14-0, pat him on the back, and say "thanks for the lead, now let's get Cousins comfortable", especially in the playoffs.

If you want to tell me you would have started Cousins, fine. Of course, then if you lose, have fun explaining why you didn't start Griffin even though he was cleared to play.
If you want to tell me you would have pulled Griffin in the second half, fine.
If you are telling me they should have pulled him up 14-0, well, that's just stupid.Comment

In 1991, Cunningham's season came to an abrupt end when he was tackled by Bryce Paup of the Green Bay Packers and tore his anterior cruciate ligament in the 1st game of the season. He would return to the Eagles completely healed the following season, and led the team to its first playoff victory in 12 years. However, it was evident that the injury he suffered took away much of his speed and athleticism. The 1993 and 1994 seasons would be riddled by a series of nagging injuries and a transition to the west coast offense that eventually led to his benching in favor of veteran Rodney Peete. Feeling as if the fans and organization didn't fully appreciate his contributions to the team's success, as well as being unhappy with his role as a back-up, Cunningham retired from football after the 1995 season.Comment

You can turn this into a Freeman vs Griffin thread if you want, take away his wheels and he has no shot at being a better pocket passer than Freeman. Freeman is undoubtedly inconsistent but he 1. Stays healthy and 2. Has shown he can be a successful "QB" in this league. Griffin is not Griffin w/o his mobility, his frame wont allow him to withstand the abuse he is gonna take without being able to escape. Hell, he already showed he cant hold up with his mobility. Guy has a potential career altering injury in his rookie year and you are talking about taking him over players X,Y and Z. Get real.

I dont expect you to agree with me, the media has drilled into you dudes mind that he is a great QB, he isnt. Cant blame the Shanahans for implementing a system that utilizes his athleticism but he hasnt shown me anything than indicates he can make nfl throws, on a consistent basis, if needed. Guy routinely had receivers running wide open off all that run action they had going on with 3 and 4 players in the backfield and really didnt have to show much from a true QB standpoint. He really hasnt been asked to do much. Dude came from a college offense with no playbook and his NFL playbook doesnt require many reads. If this injury takes away his mobility and his speed is all of a sudden pedestrian, then we will see how good of a QB he is. Until then he is an injury prone, QB running a college offense.

And give me a break with career altering injury. ACL injuries happen all of the time now, and it's like Tommy John surgery in MLB. Players come back at the same level, and sometimes even have elevate their play. In the past year, Adrian Peterson came back from multiple knee ligaments and nearly broke an NFL record, and returned from the injury in record time. Logan Mankins played an entire SEASON on a torn ACL, blew out a couple ligaments right before the playoffs, and still played in the playoffs. Like Peterson, he was back on the field in Week One.
I'm not saying Griffin is going to be back on the field in Week One, but to say it's a career altering injury is pure hyperbole from you, probably driven by your irrational hate of the Redskins that I have yet to pinpoint the cause.Comment

Still don't get the healthy part. On the play where Griffin originally injured his knee when he collided with Haloti Ngata, any player in that situation would've had their knee injured. Nothing you could have done to stop it, and it wasn't "he should've been a smarter runner." After the concussion injury, there was much more awareness from Griffin when he took off running.

I didnt make a definitive statement, I said potential. Anyways, I know you Skins fans want to remain optimistic and hope for the best but it doesnt make my post any less valid. How many knee injuries you think one can take before their career is altered? Its not guaranteed to effect him long term but it certainly can and may happen. Bringing up two rare cases of miraculous feats while failing to acknowledge the other side is naive.
