It hit me this weekend what the NFL needs to do to take the next step.
My idea will maximize viewership allowing growth of Sunday Ticket sales and allow more games to be seen every week.
It will emphasize player safety without adding rules or tackling restrictions.
It will appease the majority of fans who seem to tune in every week while disappointing only a few.
My idea ?
5 minute games!!
Why ?.... because the first 55 minutes are utterly fucking useless.
I simply don't find excitement in watching games where nearly everything is meaningless happenstance until the final minutes where defensive ineptitude reigns supreme , home fields mean nothing , and the only thing that matters is who battles the clock best and who can cram the most scores out of the final two minutes. NFL is essentially the NBA where you can watch the final period and not really have missed anything significant. Where teams score continuously in swings and for the most part defenses are only there to maximize a stupid mistake if it comes up.
Ray Lewis getting praised for 14 tackles while his D gives up almost 40 and "willing" his team to victory by missing half his tackles and whiffing on 3 potential drive stoppers.
Manning getting grief over a loss because his dumbass safety couldn't turn his hips on a punt of pass.
Sea/Atl coaches making two glaring bonehead decisions that should have cost there teams there games.
Only smart guy this week is Bellyflop who is once again prepping his team for the SB by building it for the modern game of pass pass pass pass whoopsy they fucked up we win.
BTW Anyone else think the 3-4 defense has run its course as the dominant setup ? Front 7 alignment seems to be irrelevant and having hot pass rushers the only thing separating defenses from each other.
