Packers set to release Charles Woodson

The news is breaking all over Twitter. Sad to see him go, was hoping he would be able to retire as a Packer. Definitely a Hall of Fame caliber player.

@RapSheet Carl Poston, Charles Woodson's agent, tells me: "They're getting ready to release him. It's part of the business."

Not shocked his level of play really declined this year.

There was a 2-3 year span in Oak where he was considered a near bust , never live up to potential guy. His GB career was outstanding and turned him into a possible HOfer.
            Oakland really is a blackhole.
Best reason to have a license.

I look at Woodson as Thompson's best free agency move. His best draft move is probably taking Clay Matthews with the pick he got for trading Favre to the Jets. I think that is better than the Rodgers draft pick because he didn't trade up to get Rodgers. He fell to the Packers and was a no brainer pick by that point of the draft.

Not sure how he wouldn't be considered an easy HoFer.

He was never considered a bust he came in strong winning the defense rookie MVP and even though the raiders were terrible after the SuperBowl it wasn't even thought of him being a bust

He was never considered a bust in Oakland that I remember, only some injury issues here and there

The end of his raiders run, people thought he was done. I remember that, but never being considered a bust.

can't pay 10 million to a "play whatever DB position gets injured the most" player who spent most of last year committing pass interference / illegal contact.

still among my favorite Packers ever and definitely was the heart and soul of the one year Dom Capers had a good defense in GB. The recent Superbowl Ring was as much him as it was Rodgers.

Will still boo him mercilessly when the Vikings sign him

"near" bust doesnt = bust. He had a lump of woes in Oakland. A 3 year stretch of injuries and stark decline in his play. He never hit the peak people expected until he hit GB. You guys are forgetting how easily ESPN and others throw around "great" and "bust".

I see him as first-ballot HOFer.
