    Goodell Made $29.49m in 2011

There was a time during the NFL lockout in 2011 that Roger Goodell was voluntarily earning a $1 salary. With a collective bargaining agreement eventually reached with the players, and only one preseason game missed, Goodell's compensation went up quite a bit.

A copy obtained of the league's tax return confirms the commissioner earned $29.49 million in 2011. The league's general counsel, Jeff Pash, who also reduced his salary to $1 during the lockout, came away with $8.8 million in total compensation.

Goodell earned $11.6 million in 2010.

"The NFL is the most successful and best-managed sports league in the world," Falcons owner Arthur Blank said in a statement obtained by The Sports Business Daily. "This is no small part due to Roger's leadership and the value he brings to the table in every facet of the sport and business of the league. His compensation reflects that."

The Sports Business Daily was the first to report the numbers.

Goodell's compensation likely makes him the highest-paid commissioner in sports. Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig and NBA commissioner David Stern earn in the range of $20 million annually.

Yes they should. My guess is that most won't understand or agree with me, but like it or not these men have been chosen for the highest ranking positions in their respective leagues. Now, many may not agree with them as the choice, or the decisions they make, but regardless they hold a position of power over everything. In billions and billions of revenue a year, the #1 guy on the podium making $20-30 million a year is completely adequate.

Just as an example, if the league made $6 billion last year, and Roger made $30 million, if my math didn't get lost in the zero's that is only 0.5% of revenue.

EDIT: Let me add another example for you Jimmy: Say Lisa Lixalottakok started her own business providing great blow up sex dolls. She's the head honchette of the businesses board, just like a Commish. She is allowed the same 0.5% of revenue salary. Her business made $10 million last year......her salary was a whopping $50,000 for all of her work. Think Roger still makes too much compared to his position and what his organization brings in?

I didnt know Gooddell started the NFL.

From what Ive read Tagliabue is still making 7-9 million from the NFL office which is considered "non profit". I really dont give a shit about his salary but good lord getting paid 30 million to slowly tear apart a league must be a sweet gig.

Quit being a weirdo. The example was completely not what Goodell is .Up until the "EDIT" I was going to thank his post. The only significant part was how much money the league brings in. Roger Goodell has as little to do with the NFLs success as most camera men. He does hold the top leadership position and his contract likely reflects that. If retired commish makes nearly 10 its not out of line to make 30 as acting commish. Now go watch some Champ Bailey highlights and call it a day.

The leader of one of the wealthiest businesses in the world has the same impact on it as a camera man.

Yeah the massive global expansion of the game and community involvement that we are seeing is because of a cameraman and not Roger Goodell

I'm not even saying it's all Roger Goodell, but to compare him to a cameraman? How much worse of a comparison can it get.

stop having a JimLeavy moment. I'll remove the part about her starting her own company if it makes you happy, it still gets my point across to Simpleton's. A CEO/President/Grand Poobah of an organization with buckets of money only having a salary of 0.5% of their haul in, is very low in the grand scheme. How many people would take a CEO/President/Grand Poobah position at a $10 million dollar business and agree $50k in salary is cool???

And Roger doesn't do anything?? Like I said, you may not like him and his decisions, but I respect the man and how many hours he does put in (As I do our terrible President). My guess is he is constantly on call and his family is probably second to work in his life. You make it sound like the guy sits on a beach from Cabo half the week drinking Mai Tai's and using GoTo Meeting.

That was my only point of contention.

I said Roger has as little to do with the success of the league as the cameraman. The leagues kabillion dollar success and growth was already happening and long established. Any commissioner good or bad would be making the same money at the NFL commish role right now. He deserves it because of his job title not for his results. That is all . No more no less.

If youd like Ill compare Goodell to Tim Cook and Steve Ballmer. Noone will ever confuse those men as being responsible for the massive success of the companies they work for. But they are at the top of the food chain of Billion dollar companies thus will be earning massive amounts of money and rightfully so. Goodells been riding on Tagliabues momentum and seems to be doing everything possible to derail it.
