    Falcons Sign S Jax

    Rotoworld

Falcons agreed to terms with RB Steven Jackson, formerly of the Rams, on a three-year contract.

The Falcons replace a diminished Michael Turner with the top back on the market. Although he's going on 30 and parked at 2,802 career touches, S-Jax had plenty left in the tank in 2012, and is a perfect fit for the Falcons offense as a versatile back with power and burst. Turner made it nearly impossible for Atlanta to move the chains on the ground last season, often holding hostage an otherwise elite offense. Jackson will be good for more than four yards per pop, and is a major asset in the passing game. Whereas Turner received a whopping 51 red-zone opportunities in the Falcons' 2012 offense, S-Jax only had 27 with the Rams.

This is huge for the Falcons. Arthur Blank is doing everything he can to get that ring.

The Packers are going to regret letting Jackson slip away to the Falcons.

Sorry but that money should be spent on fixing the defense.

That money should have been spent on S Jax, AND fixing the defense. They had to enough to do both.

Was that what this was? Word is that Green Bay was basically used as leverage to get a better deal with Atlanta. But this contract doesn't really support that. Perhaps SJ wasn't as interested in Green Bay as he was ATL.

The search for a RB continues... Even if SJ wasn't a long term solution, I can't help but think he would have been a nice fit here. He's a much better back that Ced Ben, and he was already far and away our best back before injury and Dujuan came out.

No, they don't. They have a ton of contracts coming due including Rodgers, Mathews, Raji, etc. I was hoping they would pass on SJax, he doesn't bring much to the table for us other than a 3rd and 1 guy.

I know nothing of the Packers salary cap or contract situation, but that last statement is asinine. Jackson is an every down back, and much better one than whatever trash GB has been trotting out there the last couple of years.

Definitely a "win now" move. Read somewhere that only $4 Million is guaranteed. I have a feeling we wouldn't have brought S-Jax in if Tony G didn't decide to stick around another year. If Atlanta can land one of the DE's and CB's in Free Agency on the cheap then use the draft for a LB and D-Line/O-Line help (and Tyrann Mathieu ) they'll have another legitimate shot to reach the Super Bowl.

I don't think Jackson is still a top-flight back but as a complement to Quizz (ALL BEAVER EVERYTHING) and the rest of the gang he's a perfect fit.

                            Round peg, round hole situaish.
