Fitzpatrick agrees to deal with Titans

The Tennessee Titans have agreed with quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick on a two-year contract, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Fitzpatrick, 30, was released earlier this month by the Buffalo Bills after two-plus inconsistent seasons as the starter. In Tennessee, he will compete for playing time with Jake Locker, the eighth overall pick in the 2011 draft.

Fitzpatrick's up-and-down performance and his expensive contract were factors in his release from the Bills. He went 20-33 as a starter over four seasons in Buffalo. And he was in the midst of a six-year, $59 million contract extension signed in October 2011.

That was regarded as too expensive for a player who wasn't guaranteed to return as a starter this season.

In 55 games in Buffalo, Fitzpatrick threw 80 touchdowns and 64 interceptions, including a career-worst 23 in 2011. He finished his career in Buffalo ranking third on the team list in touchdowns, and fourth with 11,654 yards.

Better than Hasselbeck at this point, but Locker needs to stay healthy, not just to keep Fitzpatrick from behind center, but for his long-term future with the Titans.

I like the move, but hopefully he doesn't see the field. Locker should be a lot better this season with his dislocated shoulder fully healed.

Ryan Fitzpatrick, assuming his best suited role as high caliber backup QB. Amazing how that works out.

Locker is dog shit, not going to win with a QB who threw less than 60% in college.

        Sorry Woy

He played well his rookie year and the start of last season before suffering the shoulder injury I mentioned earlier. Can't judge the guy from that when he's shown to be a very solid quarterback when healthy.

And there's been plenty of quarterbacks with sub-60% completion percentage who have turned out good.
