Falcons Sign Osi Umenyiora For 2-Years, $8.5m

    Rotoworld

Falcons signed DE Osi Umenyiora, formerly of the Giants, to a two-year, $8.5 million contract.

Finally. This has been in the works for almost a week now, and it was just a matter of time before it got done. Umenyiora can earn another $3.5 million via incentives. The Dolphins were rumored to be sniffing around Umenyiora a little bit, but it never materialized to anything. The 31-year-old brings some much needed juice to Atlanta's pass rush, essentially replacing John Abraham. GM Thomas Dimitroff still needs to be on the lookout for more edge rushers. At this point, Umenyiora and Kroy Biermann are the starters at end for the Falcons. Osi recorded 43 tackles and six sacks last season.

Nothing says the end of March like a fanbase getting excited over the signing of a player who used to be good but is now mediocre at best.

I will miss him...seemed like a good teammate and fun guy. He made some game winning plays for the Giants. I hope he does well.

9 sacks last year, bruh. Obviously not what he once was, but still a #solid pass rusher which fills a need.

Rudi talking about the Falcons fan base after one post.

Anywho, hopefully they push to sign Abraham back or grab Freeney.

There is no way they spend that much money in free agency on DE's. I think it is a given that they will draft one or two ends though.

Osi was a great player, his play has dropped down in the past few years, but hes still a solid player and was a key member of the giants defense that won 2 super bowls. one thing i will not miss is his patented speed rush around the tackle that gets him pushed 10 yards into the backfield every other play. thats why he had so many strip-sacks. once a pass play broke down he would swoop in from 10 yards behind to get the QB who never saw him coming.
