Niners sign Anthony Davis to extension

Offensive tackle Anthony Davis has signed a five-year extension with the NFC champion San Francisco 49ers, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter on Friday.

The extension guarantees Davis $17 million and has a total worth of $37,295,600, the source said.

Davis was the 11th overall selection in the 2010 draft and has started all 48 regular-season games of his career. He was scheduled to become a free agent after the 2014 season.

The 6-foot-5, 323-pound Davis, along with Joe Staley and Mike Iupati help form what is considered one of the game's best offensive lines.

Locking up core players has been a staple for the 49ers, who will have other contract issues to deal with in the coming years. Quarterback Colin Kaepernick and wide receiver Michael Crabtree are scheduled to become unrestricted free agents after the 2014 season.
