Couldn't get through it because those cunts were just too stupid. Just a bunch of stubborn white dudes fucking around because one agent had a dumb idea.
Covert ended up being a really nice pick..but Willie Gault...geesh. Fucking McMahon.
The Bears were really dumb...Covert was Marino's tackle in college, his bff...Chicago should have taken Jimbo and Marino and they would've probably dominated the 80's.

that's looking 20/20....Jim McMahon was picked the year before and won NFC ROTY. It's hard to get another qb in the 1st round after his performance in '82.
I thought the episode was interesting. I think any player who criticized what Elway did was probably just jealous that Elway had the ability to use baseball as leverage, and in the end it was a good move by Elway to avoid the Colts. I don't know what people thought at the time, but Frank Kush was a terrible fit for the NFL. Why did the Colts hire him in the first place? Was he an Accorsi hire?
Speaking of Ernie Accorsi, I really have to question his strategy regarding Elway. First, Frank Kush went winless in 1982...if Elway didn't want to play for him, why not just get rid of Kush? Happens in the NBA all the time. Second, the USFL was paying big money to rookie QBs, so even if Accorsi thought Elway preferred football over baseball, Elway could always jump ship to the USFL, too. 1983 was a great time for rookie bargaining power. Third, Accorsi said that the 1983 draft class was far superior to the projected 1984 draft class, yet he seemed to be in no hurry to get a deal done and instead wanted to wait it out with Elway and try to work out a deal at some point during the 1983 season. But by that time, not only would many teams have already selected their rookie QB, but the Colts themselves would have missed out on selecting one of the five other 1983 first-round QBs. Accorsi's strategy seemed to be based on the reasoning that the Colts' bargaining position would improve over time, when the opposite was, IMO, clearly the case. The longer the Colts waited to make a deal regarding Elway, the less chance there would be for the Colts to draft a different franchise QB.
I was impressed. That old NE Coach seems a bit bitter, even today.

Yeah, Ron Meyer had an interesting assessment of Tony Eason. Eason was frail...his body was the same as Sam Bradford's. But Eason was a very good QB, and I liked how Meyer referred to him as "just another guy" (or something like that). Eason's 1984 season was pretty incredible for a 1st year starter. Meyer is was fired at the midway point of the 1984 season, and I think he is still the only coach in NFL history to be fired in midseason while having a winning record (5-3). Eason's 1986 season was astounding..# 2 offense, 3328 yards, 19-10, 62% for a team that had the worst running game in modern NFL history.
