    New recruiting news

Now that spring football is starting and Jake will be a senior, he now has schools coming to visit him. He just got home and said that USF, Villanova, The Citadel and Charleston Southern all came to speak to him at practice. He spoke with each rep individually. They all had the same type of feedback. They thought he was a smooth runner, they have requested his grades and test scores, etc.

He said the rep from the Citadel was "really young" and didn't seem to "know what he was doing." He likes Villanova b/c of the academics and another one of his teammates sign his LOI to go there this fall. Obviously, USF was the school he was most excited about. Until now, the only two schools that have been emailing and keeping up a sense of personal contact have been FAU and Cincinnati. So, he is excited to have USF interested along with FAU and Cincy as the "bigger" D-1 schools that have shown interest.

Congrats. Is he still onthe smaller side? I seem to remember he was like 5'10" 180 lbs last time you posted

Still the same height. He has bulked up to about 190 now and looking to add more weight.

Big County Preps listed him as a top 5 RB in the county as well, so hopefully that brings more attention for him. Went to a IGNITE camp recently. They mentioned him as one of the best at the camp.

Eager to learn and is a physical competitor. Dominated during blitz pick up versus the LBs. Solid footwork and speed. Will make for a good prospect.

Jake Carroll RB/Returner will be a potential recruit for 2014 Steinbrenner class (if Jake can get fully back from the ACL injury in 2011 Gaither game, Jake was only 75-80% in 2012). Jake as a freshman was the fastest track sprinter in all of Steinbrenner before the ACL injury in Fall season of his Sophomore year. Fingers crossed he will make it all the way back, he is running track again so we will soon know if his blazing speed is back.

Yeah. He really shined during track this past season. Seemed to trust his knee more. Last year, he had some great runs, but, never seemed to push himself. I thought he was tentative, he said it was his knee brace. Last game of the season his surgeon said he could play without the brace and he just took off on some runs.

I've got a nephew playing Ivy League football right now that was recruited pretty heavily by the Citadel and did not like the idea of going there either for obvious reasons.

Bummer that Tech isn't talking to him more seriously.

They were sending stuff all the time...still are. But, the FAU and Cincinnati stuff has started coming in a bit more heavily now. FAU especially. He has already been down there twice.

Has he gotten any unofficial or official visits?

I got a lot of letters and phone calls asking for my transcripts in high school but very few were actually serious enough to fly me out there or give any kind of scholarship. Had some walk on offers but scholarships from smaller schools but it was pretty disappointing after all the letters and transcript requests I got from D1 schools.

We've received enough letters now to know which are form letters and which are actual letters of interest. For example, Auburn and Missouri send BS letters all the time. Schools that have had personal communication with Jake thus far are FAU, Citadel, College of Charleston, USF, Villanova and Georgia Tech.

However, Jake texted me today from school and said that the OC from Wake Forest came to see him. He was told that he is in their top 10 recruits for the state of Florida. That got him really excited since it is a ACC school. He also received some correspondence today from Yale which his coach told him would likely be happening, since they called the school offices a few weeks ago about his grades, transcripts, etc.

I would say have him go to Villanova (my school), but if those FBS schools are that interested in him, he's gotta go that route.

How are his hands? From all I've read he sounds like a warrior. I really hope his knee holds up, and if he is a hard worker then he should be fine. I had a buddy in high school that tore his acl three times. His knee just never healed like it was supposed too. He still managed to play juco baseball. But I know how tough the injury is. I think track will help with that more than anything.

This is a fun time for him (it was for me), and hopefully they have a good season all around and he should get even more looks during the season if he keeps it up.

                        Good luck to him

They are practicing M-Sat right now. Yesterday they had the SAT at his school though and he had practice last night instead. When he got to practice the Wake Forest OC was there watching him again and told him to keep up the good work.

Big County Preps was also at practice and took a video of him in the Oklahoma drill, I love how he keeps his balance to finish the run.
