Disagree. There are certain things you need to succeed. I can look at the Vikings and say well because of the magnitude Adrian "Orange Peanut" Peterson is the most important guy and HB is the most important position. Big difference between best player and most important position.
Goofball or not Rams Kicker assertion brings up an interesting point which underlies my LT pick. Certain positions like Long snapper/Holder/Kicker arent high on anyone list but if you have a lousy mistake prone one holy crap will things go bad. Other positions like WR/CB/HB can easily be best on field or make huge impacts but you dont "need" them to be great or even consistent. QB/Edge Rusher/LT are imperative positions where they demand consistency and rank high on the likely to make a huge impact category.
20 years ago QB/LT/DE/HB/CB were probably the easy 5 positions. Today ? You can likely put MLB/NT/S/WR/C in some of those slots and not get a peep of resistance.
BTW Surprised no mention of MLB. When you look at the top MLBs the last decade or so (Urlacher , Lewis , Willis , Mayo , Fletcher , Timmons , Ryans etc) they have a bunch of SB trips , and almost all have playoff appearances. Off the top of my head the only MLB that was really , really good but always on a shitty team is Beason from Carolina and cant stay healthy Sean Lee.
