    From October:

In this week's Sports Illustrated, former Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell blamed ex-Oakland head coach Tom Cable, his teammates, and sleep apnea for his failure to develop into an NFL quarterback.
"I did the sleep test, and they said I had apnea," claims Russell. "Things weren’t going right, and it felt sometimes like everything fell back on me. ... I may have missed a throw, but I didn’t give up 42 points, I didn’t miss a block. ... I stuck my neck out for (Cable). Didn’t complain when he benched me as the starter. Didn’t complain when he called the same plays five damn times. Didn’t [badmouth] him to other coaches. When the [media] asks me, I say, ‘He’s a good coach, a good guy.’ Then I hear he says I was the worst thing ever happened to the Raiders, if it weren’t for him we’d be in the playoffs?" Russell's chances of resurfacing in the NFL just decreased. Not that he cares.

His home was foreclosed on, his fucking "life coach" cut ties with him. Russell is a joke. He really seems mature though.
Not everything he says in that interview is completely far-fetched. JaMarcus Russell wasn't the only thing wrong with those Raider teams. Those teams were awful.

Again.. it's just a tryout, and I'm sure Marc Trestman (a guy who had a great deal of success with NFL cast offs in the CFL) just wants to see what Russell looks like. Is he likely getting into the Bears camp or any other camp? I'd probably say no.. but as far as a simple tryout why not? Who out there as a FA is markably better at this point to be a 2nd/3rd string guy? And no.. Tim Tebow isn't one of those guys.

A lot of guys Hasselbeck. Its scary you would even ask such a question.

I'll start out with Batch, Leftwich, Leinart, and Thigpen.

And the 2009 Raiders were 3-4 with Charlie Frye and Bruce Gradkowski at QB... a couple of bums in their own right but a lot better than Russell. They weren't awful talent wise but Russell made them ∞X worse than they were. With Russell they managed less than 10 points a game while Frye and Brucey managed almost 16 a game, about a touchdown more per game, than with Russell. I wouldn't trust Russell to be my practice squad QB. I would be too afraid his retardation would spread to the rest of my team.

Batch is like 65 years old. Leftwich, Leinart and Thigpen .. you know what you're getting from all those guys... and it's not pretty.

JaMarcus Russell is still only 27 years old. Again.. not denying he was a bum in Oakland. But he was a very highly touted prospect coming out of LSU for a reason.. Al Davis dementia aside. Few QB's have the physical talents he did coming out of school. Unfortunately his work ethic was shit and he was totally mishandled by the Raiders from the get go..

Marc Trestman is a renowned QB guru. He loves cast offs and trying to turn around QB's that didn't pan out in the pros. THATS why he's getting a look before any of the guys you mentioned.

I'll never forget when that bum ass dragged his manatee looking body off the bench to lead a comeback drive over the Broncos a few years ago. I used to just make fun of the guy, but that day it turned into pure HATE

Before Marc Trestman signs him though you better find him a new life coach.

As much as I hated him at LSU at thought he was overrated even then, I would love if Russell were to make the Bears and tear shit up in the preseason. Jay Cutler has been the least-productive QB in the NFL over the last four years...wouldn't it be great if he lost his job to JaMarcus Russell?

Honestly, if you are a scout and don't at least take a look at someone that was talented enough to be a #1 draft pick and still only 27 years old then you aren't doing you aren't your job well.

There is nothing wrong with taking a look at someone with your own eyes instead of just going by what other people are saying.

How do you think guys like Arian Foster are where they are today? Somebody took the time to give him a look and a chance and found a gem.

Arian Foster is an awful comparison to Russell. The reasons I wouldn't look at Russell a player like Foster doesn't have, Foster is actually the complete opposite.

I don't think I did. In the NFL Draft every year you always hear how some teams don't even have certain players on their draft boards for certain reasons.

Doesn't mean they aren't doing their job by not giving them a chance.

                            From Rotoworld-

The Bears are reportedly using Friday's JaMarcus Russell workout merely to update their emergency list.
Russell isn't going to come out of the workout with a contract. The Bears are reportedly "very pleased" with backups Josh McCown/Matt Blanchard, and are not looking to add a fourth quarterback. Teams are always bringing in street free agents for workouts so they can be ready to pounce in case injuries strike.

Another report said it was merely "information gathering". He won't be signed any time soon.

How many 6'5 quarterback prospects who can throw it 80 yards on the fly get left off of draft boards tho?

                              Oh, none? K.

Drafting a player =/= to giving a former #1 pick a tryout. Worst case scenario a few hours are wasted. Oh no!
