Jeremy Maclin tears ACL/Out for Season

Ill news out of Philadelphia, where the Eagles are down a wide receiver.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported that Jeremy Maclin left Eagles practice Saturday with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, ending his season, according to someone who has spoken to the receiver. The Eagles later confirmed the injury.

Rapoport reported the Eagles originally feared Maclin also had torn the medial collateral ligament in the knee during 7-on-7 drills at training camp. But a team source told NFL.com's Albert Breer that Maclin's MCL is fine.

Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Maclin lay on the ground for approximately five minutes as team trainers worked over him. New Eagles coach Chip Kelly stood by as Maclin lay on his back, and the fifth-year pro covered his face with a towel as he was wheeled away.

"He just came off the line of scrimmage, and his knee buckled a little bit," Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson said, via the team's official website. "It's an unfortunate situation."

Eagles quarterback Michael Vick told McLane: "Usually when a guy falls like that, there's something to be worried about."

Maclin's loss is costly for the Eagles. He's a consistent producer who accounted for 69 receptions, 857 yards and seven touchdowns last season. He has averaged 65 catches and 863 yards per season in his NFL career.

Maclin figured to play a pivotal role in Kelly's up-tempo scheme. Now the Eagles need another answer
this was his contract year too

Barring stupid fantasy football rhetoric, I actually root for Maclin when he gets a chance on the field for the Iggles.

Now that he's out, Chip's system (or whatever the hell it is) has one less piece and more work for Vick and Co. to deal with.

Same. I feel he is one of the most underrated guys in the league, and would be a standout #1 on most any other team. The Eagles always seemed to underutilize him, even though he was the better receiver between him and Desean Jackson. I always wanted our focus on Maclin first when the Redskins played them.

Its bad news when the accompanying article to Maclin's injury is "Riley Cooper Needs To Step Up".

            Ick.

When Maclin isn't injurred (which is kind of often, FWIW)...he's a solid, very good tier two wide receiver.
