    Mornhinweg wants Smith over Sanchez

The Jets quarterback competition might not be over, but it is in offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg's head.

If Mornhinweg had to vote between Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith as the Jets starter, that vote would 'unequivocally' go to Geno Smith, according to NFL.com.

And this isn't a 'Mark Sanchez is injured so I'm voting for Geno' vote, it's an 'even if Sanchez were healthy, I'd still vote for Geno' vote. According to NFL.com, Mornhinweg loves the thought of Smith at quarterback and 'gushes about him.'

The same can't be said for Rex Ryan though. Ryan was asked about the Jets quarterback competition on Friday and he didn't name Smith the starter or Sanchez or anyone, "I guess you can assume it's ongoing if we haven't announced anything yet." Ryan said.

Mornhinweg must not be lobbying hard enough for Smith because Ryan conceded that the team could enter Week 1 without actually naming a starting quarterback.

"I guess it's a possibility," Ryan said. "When we feel good about it, we'll make that decision. Certainly we haven't put a timetable on it as far as naming a starting quarterback. When we feel good about that decision as an organization, we'll make it."

One of the things Ryan probably doesn't feel good about right now is Sanchez's health.

The 26-year-old quarterback injured his shoulder in a preseason game on Aug. 24 -- the fourth quarter of a preseason game -- and Sanchez is still reportedly unable to throw, which makes it unlikely he'll start in Week 1. Of course, Sanchez not being able to throw doesn't mean Smith has to win the quarterback competition.

"There's a lot of factors that go into things," Ryan said. "Health could be a factor, and there could be other things as well. That's why I would consider the competition as ongoing. Until there's an announcement, then the competition is ongoing. If we announce it Wednesday, then fine. If not, then I guess you can assume that the competition is still ongoing."

Unless of course, Mornhinweg can convince Ryan to just name Smith the starter.

If Marty feels Geno can run this offense then let him...I've liked what I've seen from this offense this year...only thing is Geno hasn't had the snaps to really get use to this offense.

That aside, I hope if Geno starts, he does well. Don't know how people could still support Sanchez with what he's shown the league so far lol.

        RIP West

Willie Colon said Sanchez should start because of his toughness. HIS TOUGHNESS.
