    More Thursday games

I know VSN will love this...

The NFL may add additional Thursday night games in the future, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

The NFL may add additional Thursday night games in the future, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

The Wall Street Journal, citing a person familiar with the league's strategy, reported Tuesday that the league is weighing selling a second slate of Thursday games to a media outlet to pair with its existing 13-game slate on NFL Network.

The league isn't discussing specific terms with any media outlets, nor have any formal offers been exchanged, according to the report. But the person told the Wall Street Journal the NFL is disappointed the Thursday night games on NFL Network haven't earned better ratings.

The league's prevailing thought, according to the report, is that frequent Thursday doubleheaders could generate more interest.

Another option reportedly includes moving some Thursday night games from NFL Network to another outlet.

The NFL also won't limit itself to national cable sports networks as potential partners, and will consider online outlets, including Netflix Inc. and Google Inc., the person told the Wall Street Journal.

Taking more games away from Sunday, and moving them to mid week? Color me shocked, who saw this coming? And they will be good games too, since they aren't happy with the shitty ratings for the mediocre games on the current package.

    Stop diluting Sunday, please.

Good. Can we good them on Tuesday and Wednesday nights too? Otherwise I might actually be forced to watch some sport other than football from September through February.

Do they plan on lowering my Sunday Ticket bill by $30 if they do this ($2 per game, as they advertise)?

When they added the 9-week Thursday package or whatever, it went up even though they were giving me less games. When they moved to a full Thursday schedule, and added a second opening week Monday night game, same thing, less games, but the price went up.

Sunday Ticket already gives me the least amount of games of any sports package, for the highest cost. Not to mention they gave it away for free last year to new customers, while i've paid thousands over the years and got stuck with full price.

Honestly.. I think it's just a push toward global expansion by the NFL.

I think the league leaves a lot of talent on the streets right now.. maybe even enough for one or two additional teams. But Rog will go crazy and create four new European teams and give them their own division.

            All this will happen.

So, having a Thursday night game on every week isn't working. I am not surprised.

                      1. Sunday Ticket price has gone down.

                      2. By the time this new schedule is implemented, Sunday Ticket may not exist as we know it anymore. Next year is the last year in DirecTVs deal and the word is the league is looking to diversify its media offerings more.

                      3. Thursday night games have been shown to be hated by both players and coaches. Nobody wants to play them. In addition, fans have even been polled and shown to dislike them. Furthermore, it seems the Thursday night game is the "Monday Night spotlight game" for shit teams/matchups. All of this contributes to its poor ratings. So what is the NFLs idea......more games offered on different channels. BRILLIANT! It's like the NFL is turning into our nations Congress. People tell them what they want....nobody making rules listens, and they decide what's best because it's what they want and it makes them money.

They want as many games on Nationally as possible. The NFL won't stop until their brand is over saturated. They obviously don't feel like they've hit that point yet.

                            Euro teams are not happening.

They will not be able to attract free agents and it will be a real issue with player salaries and taxes.

You MIGHT soon see a team in Canada...maybe. But not Europe...its just not a realistic endeavor. It sounds nice though.
