But yes, polls are typically stupid and a flawed system of evaluation. Welcome to the wonderful world of division 1 college football.Comment

Not that it bolsters the SEC argument or anything.
Mizzou being ranked 5th is just so awesome still though. Seriously.Comment

You could poke holes in the major programs from all the major conferences right now, save for a handful of dominant teams at the top. It's almost as if the rankings don't matter all that much aside from the top two in this crazy game. Oh wait, we already knew that.
As for the rest, who exactly is being slighted? Does it really matter if 2-loss South Carolina is ranked ahead of say, 2-loss UCLA? I could see an argument for Michigan State needing to be higher, but this early in the season what difference does it really make? Win moar games, try to win a conference, then try to win your bowl. Rankings are meaningless right now, there's another 5 weeks of football to be played.
Just to clarify, this isn't me disagreeing with your point. It's me asking why you think your point is worth making this vociferously.Last edited by NAHSTE; 10-28-2013, 09:49 AM.Comment

Yeah I feel like college football is just a popularity contest based on the perception of the human polls, and then the yearly results confirm the voting populace's perception, and the next year's preseason polls will reflect voter perception based on the previous year ... which is exactly how it works, and we all knew this.Comment

Someone has to be ranked in those spots. Look around CFB, how many quality teams do you really see out there? Stanford threw for 88 yards while beating Oregon State 20-12 (WHICH, ZOMG, IS A TEAM THAT LOST TO EASTERN WASHINGTON) ... Miami needed two late scores to survive Wake Forest in front of maybe 20 thousand fans yet they are ranked 7th!!!! ... Oklahoma struggled vs. Kansas last week, barely beat TCU two weeks prior and got blown out by a meh Texas team in the interim. Zomg still ranked #13!!!! How can this be?!?!?!
