Instead of doing the typical pro-individual players fantasy football thing. My friends a few years ago came up with a CFFL college fantasy league where we use teams against each other.
at the beginning of/before the football season my friend gets a preview issue and seperates the teams into averaged out groups so everyone gets what is hopefully a mix of good and bad teams.
right now we have 12 teams/people in our league and each person has a 10 team roster.
each week we compete by picking one of our teams to go against the other guy and who he picks and the one with the most points from the match up wins. We also pick an OT team just in case. If the team you picked goes into OT in their game you still get the total points.
we have double header weeks going against 2 people and a couple point differential weeks to jazz it up and you are allowed to use 4 teams twice during the season. theres 12 teams and we have an 8 team playoffs so if you win 6 or 7 games you still have a good chance to make the playoffs...which I did last year
if your team is playing a lower division school like Appalachian State or something like that the game is grayed out and you cant use them. I won last year for the first time ! and people were surprised because I had the last roster pick and supposedly the weakest roster LOL.
but that's that's the beauty and fun of this. You rely on point spreads each week to play the better team but theres lots of luck involved( aside from being a knowledgeable sports fan and looking at stats that might help your match up...but mostly its about the point spread). Early on some of us will take the approach of using a weak team just to get them out of the way. This year I started 0-3 because I wanted to get rid of western Mich and Memphis...but then I went on a 7-0 run because of lucky picks and others needing to balance out who they want to use if they've already used certain teams once or twice.
once you get to the playoffs you can use any team you want as many times as you want( which is just 3 times anyway)
I got lucky in the first round because all I could use was Boston college because of byes or grayed out games for my other better teams. My opponent has/had Florida State but he was thinking too hard and used Oklahoma State LOL so I got lucky ( I could have used East Carolina too but didn't realize they'd score that much)
this last week my other opponent had Oregon...I used Boise and barely won ( I again got lucky because East Carolina killed their opponent ) Now I'm in the final again and My biggest point spread is Georgia who plays Kentucky and odds are my friend will use Wisconsin ( he has South Carolina but they play a lower division school this week which pretty much saves me from being an underdog LOL)
I think I'm in a pretty good position for a second title !
My team name is Happy Valley U.
its relatively simple but still fun !
