Yea, I don't think that was a cheap shot, nor do I think the Cobb injury was a cheap shot. These guys don't have any other choice at this point.

You could lessen the likelihood of a Gronkowski type injury if you banned spear tackling and made it mandatory to attempt to wrap your arms around the opponent when you tackle. On the other hand, this would make a defender's job even harder and the offence/defence balance is bad enough as it is.

That block on Lee was obviously a very dangerous albeit legal play but herp derp he wasn't a skill position player so he obviously can't be concussed.

You shrink the tackle zone too much and every hit, especially on QBs is going to draw a flag.

Case in point, the clean wrap tackle on Brees a few weeks ago...

I have no idea how people expect a 6'3 240 pound linebacker to locate and attack Danny Woodhead's waist while moving at full speed and trying not to get blindsided.

you still have to run towards a guy whether spearing or wrap tackling..it wont make offense that much stronger than it is already..there would probably less whiffs on tackles anyway

FWIW the end goal of "spearing" when I was playing was to use size an momentum to separate the ball carrier from the football. Some guys just wanted to make big hits, but for the most part we were trying to turn the ball over or pop a pass into the air to pick it off.

I can totally see why DBs have turned towards so heavily towards launching themselves at receivers when they are basically barred from doing anything to prevent completions.

Who is worse: Joey Crawford or Jeff Triplette?
