I think every player on the field, kicker or punter, should be fair game to be hit. It's professional football, I certainly am not going to have any sympathy for some guy who is paid millions to kick a ball gets run over because he wasn't aware of where he was.

      Please.

Every NFL player makes mistakes on the field.

This was a defenseless player who made a mistake and got destroyed by a real football player who clearly looked like a guy trying to destroy a defenseless punter.

I don't deny Huber made a mistake, but he didn't deserve a broken jaw and vertebrae over it. This was like a fight where the winner hit the loser after he was down. Yeah, he won, but it was classless and stupid.

This reminds me of a story in Wayne Gretzky's autobiography.

As a 17-year-old rookie in the World Hockey Association, Gretzky was in a game where a brawl broke out. The 150-lb. Gretzky grabbed the closest player to him during the brawl, a guy who was an adult and 50 lbs. or more than the teen. The guy said to Gretzky "Just hold on to me kid, I won't hit you." Gretzky replied, after a look of fear, "sounds good to me!"

There's a bit of code ... going after kickers is just gutless.

Once again if your head is down and you a near the play, no matter what position you are, you are going to get hit. And let's not act like this is an issue that happens every game, most, if not every punter is smart enough to get out of the way. So making it 10 on 10 on a punt return is pretty pointless.

Again, Huber made a mistake ... but that hit was clearly a cheap shot and targeting him.

If he wasn't near the punt returner I would agree, but you are off base.

He didn't have to destroy Huber like that, a simple hit would have done the job. And don't tell me for a second he didn't know that was a kicker he was hitting. A simple block would have done it.

If it's David Akers or a kicker with a rep for real tackles, ok, but it wasn't.

The cool thing about a guy who doesn't have his head on a swivel and isn't aware of his surroundings is that you don't have to put much effort into stopping him. Certainly doesn't take a launched helmet to helmet hit.

Good, hard clean hit in my book. Should he have went for the gut and knocked all of the wind out the guy? How about the knees? He hit him in the chest and decleated him.

If you are in position to make a play then your ass is fair game. Not putting the onus on a player to differentiate what players play what position on a punt or kick return, the game moves too fast. You see the other teams color its on them to be aware much like its on the "hitter" to make the hit clean. Just like in boxing, protect your self at all times. The return game yields some of the more brutal hits/blocks in the game. At some point lets start holding some of these "defenseless" players accountable for getting their asses tore off when they arent paying attention.

Intimidation should still be apart of the game. Feel bad the guy got hurt so bad but if you dont want to get hit like that stay as far away from the athletes as you can and deal with it in the film room.

Crown of his helmet is right under the punters chin/jaw/facemask. Facemask/side of Steelers player helmet made contact with the punters chest. The whiplash makes it seem as though it was a shot to the chin. That said I can see how one can see it either way. Tough call but its clean to me.

No problem. Fines and new rules are dealt with by people far away from the athletes, sitting in the film room.
