Vikings will not bring back Leslie Frazier

The Vikings announced Monday morning that Leslie Frazier will not return as coach in 2014.

“We have tremendous respect and appreciation for Leslie and what he has done for the Minnesota Vikings,” said Vikings owner Zygi Wilf. “He stepped in and established a strong positive culture here and he has been the consummate professional as our head coach and in this community. Making this change is difficult, but what we determined is best for the organization.” “Unfortunately, we did not achieve consistent success and did not achieve the progress we expected,” said Vikings General Manager Rick Spielman. “We believe a coaching change is needed to help build a successful team moving forward.”

CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora wrote Sunday that the Vikings began back channeling with coaching candidates -- Penn State's Bill O'Brien among them -- several weeks ago, and, having not extended Frazier's contract a year ago and with him coaching out his option year, it was widely expected that he would be let go.

Frazier, who took over for Brad Childress during the 2010 season, amassed a 21-32-1 record in Minnesota.

The writing was on the wall for this one, especially his lame duck status. Vikings still need a quarterback, amongst other things, and that didn't make Frazier's job any easier.

He is a very good defensive coordinator. Would be a good add to any team.

he was a top notch coordinator and should have gotten a head coach shot before getting it by default in minnesota. however it's evident he's one of those guys who is in above his head when in charge of the whole team.
