Definitely a surprise to be sure. I guess BOB wanted into the NFL all along. I think ultimately leaving Penn State is a mistake, but it's his choice.

At the very least, he's going to a team that has just about everything except for a quarterback. Great group of offensive weapons, a solid defense led by JJ Watt. In my mind, the Texans were by far the best situation for an incoming head coach.

BOB showed, without question, that he is a good college football coach. He can jump back down any time he wants or has to, and will have his pick of the litter of schools...but, you don't get too many opportunities to go to the NFL and you need to go when the time is right. Looks at a coach like Kirk Ferentz...missed his NFL boat. Look at Greg Schiano...left Rutgers, sucked for two years in the NFL, made 7M bucks (only had a salary slightly above 2M @ Rutgers)...gets fired, now the leading candidate to get the Penn State job. Look at Saban and Spurrier...jump to the NFL, suck, jump back down and had their pick of the litter in CFB (go to Bama and SC) and are two of the highest paid coaches in CFB.

I don't see the "loss" at all for making the jump to the NFL from CFB. College football will always be there if the NFL doesn't work out.

Don't blame him. The fanbase sucks and will always stick up for Joe, and Dave Joyner is absolutely inept at his job.

Calling it now. Whoever takes over Penn St, and I don't even need to know who it is before I say this, they will last longer, have more success, and make a shit ton more money than BOB will in Houston. If it's Schiano, it's a lock. Schiano will go there, win, stay 30 years, and become CFB royalty. BOB will be calling plays for NE by 2017.

I see all that, but unless he didn't want to be the "figurehead" of Penn State anymore, which is a completely legitimate reason, I see no reason for him to leave for the NFL.

I personally believe Houston is in a good spot to succeed, but over their small tenure in the NFL, they've not been a destination spot. The Penn State job is one of the few that is comparable to an NFL job, and I don't think he should have jumped at this time. Unless of course, he doesn't want to be the figurehead or whatever.

Also agree with Warner 110%. I'm thinking it's Schiano, and he's going to be set for life at Penn State.

Life nowadays is 10-15 years. Fans seem to be taking it harder than current players. He took the job, when it was considered toxic by many and left it in a better place.
