All comments are in there career vs peers not all time......
Bettis - just because I love powerbacks but he's a weak choice.
Haley- Best OLB/DE not named Reggie or Bruce . Never the single game force that Derrick Thomas was but way more consistent and much better against the run. The definition of disruptive.
Walter Jones- No brainer. I still think Ogden and Boselli were better at there best. But Jones was a stonewall. Got much better I'm run blocking second half of career made a huge difference in my perception.
Will Shields- Allen , McDaniel and Shields were head and shoulders above everyone else in my lifetime.
Not as dominant as Allen..versatile as Matthews...but dominant and steady for a long ,long time.
Aeneas Williams - Lost in the Deion/Woodson era + being in Arizona. Not quite as dominant as them but the definition of a textbook CB. Technically outstanding. He just didn't have the top end speed Deion/Rod/Green had. Played spectacular against a slew of guys some of you will swear are HOF WR.
Missed it.....
Brooks I ironically left out even though I think he's probably the best OLB of his era. He was as good a LB as Williams was a CB but Williams had 2 GOAT guys playing and faced the largest most talented group of WRs in league history. Brooks didn't really have dominant RBs and TEs to deal with. Played on an all time team. Anyone make a good non stat based argument for him ? Willing to listen.
Strahan- overrated brat and team cancer for a long time. Never thought he was dominant just really good. Not getting my vote.
Harrison and Reed take a seat. Rice/Irvin/Carter/Moss only guys I'm giving instant nods to from 90 to 00
Holt/Bruce/TO/Smith/Harrison I need to hear something compelling I'm not putting in more than 2 of them.
Everyone but Brooks had planetary greats playing in there time. Interesting list.
