So, with your eyes when you were "actually watching them", I guess you didn't see them holding San Diego to a field goal twice in a row while their own quarterback was reeling. In fact whilst the Bengals O was falling apart their D was able to force the Chargers into field goal, field goal, punt in three consecutive drives where the Chargers started inside the Bengals half, including one which started on their 3 yard line. Not much else one unit could do to help a team win a playoff game.

        Yards per play - 4.7 (2nd)
        Rush Yards per play - 4.0 (15th)
        Pass yards per play - 5.9 (2nd)
        Sacks - 43 (10th)
        Turnovers - 31 (3rd)
        3rd Down Conversion - 32.9% (2nd)
TDs per Red Zone drive - .500 (8th)
        3 and Out per drive - .287 (2nd)
        Penalties Against - 69 (1st)

It's a good job you watch football games without a fucking clue what you're looking at, and we can therefore shun this wealth of empirical evidence based on what you say. If someone made me bet on a match between Team A and Team B, told me nothing about who they are or their rosters but gave me two sets of analysis - one statistical, the other Maynard's stupid opinion - I would make my pick based on the former set of info.

Let's give them credit for last year as well, when they went to Houston, gave up only 19 points, and scored their team's only touchdown and still lost "because they're not a juggernaut"

lets throw out more stats. anyone who watches football knows that the bengals dont have a juggernaut defense.

Was the Bengals defense on par with Carolina, Seattle, and San Francisco? Probably not. But it was extremely good.

Zimmer made Pacman Jones useful again, turned Vontaze Burfict into a Pro Bowler, helped Geno Atkins become the most dominant defensive tackle in the game next to JJ Watt, amongst many other things. The man can coach defense.

The Vikings are not far off from competing for the division or at the worst a wild card spot. They have a lot of talent on offense aside from Adrian Peterson. They have pieces on the defense as well. Zimmer will need to get a quarterback in the draft and find the right coordinator to work with him (I'd personally be going after Norv pretty hard if I were the Vikings) and they will be on their way.

ok...so how is what you posted anything differnet than what i posted? i said they were a good dee. i said he was a good coach. you guys are getting all defensive because i said the bengals dee was not a juggernaut. which its not. it was a solid/good dee...nothing great, nothing you would remember or think of as an elite defense.

Yeah their defence clearly isn't elite ... Now if the Bengals had a good offence on the other hand, that Bengals defence would have some wins on their record and would be totally elite.

Top 5 defence = elite. Top 10 defence 3 years in a row = you don't know what you're talking about. Now it wouldn't be a big deal and I would have just let it go if Maynard's central argument wasn't completely based on an untruth.

Turner is official for the Vikings. Excellent hire. I have to think they draft a quarterback, but they would be wise to try and get McCown to sign a 1-2 year deal to help groom that young QB for the job.

I'm prolly on my own with this but I'm comfortable with Cassel getting another training camp and start or even Freeman getting a fair shot and then have the rookie sit behind them for a year.

Either way, it will be another interesting off season for the Vikes.
