    Richard Sherman vs. Richie Incognito

Is it just me or are more people calling Sherman a thug for words? Just words.

Most of the NFL establishment and fans (myself included) gave Incognito a pass because he was simply trying to toughen up a teammate and get him up to football code.

All Sherman (a Stanford grad and intelligent guy) did was utter a few words on TV and he's immediately branded a thug.

Frankly, I think both cases are incredibly overblown.

"Thug" = Nigger, in the case of Sherman.

I agree with you dave. We aren't in the NFL locker room and we don't know the culture of one so anyone comparing it to the office you work your 8-5 at is simply retarded. The only opinions I hold valid as far as the Richie Incognito situation are other players that have been in that environment. And you're never gonna hear a white guy be called a thug - thats code for angry black nigger.

Richard Sherman is doing a great job of using his personality to become a household name whether you like his antics or not and it's incredibly smart on his part so long as his play backs up his words which so far it has. How many people publicly come at Tom Brady's neck, pick him off in game, all while your team beats his. It's funny because he didn't once swear after the NFCCG and you see people on twitter calling him a thug while swearing and calling him nigger a million times. We must hold athletes to such a high standard that the only thing that is acceptable is the tired cliche answers. If Richard Sherman is a thug when he didn't even so much as swear what does that make the person sitting behind a keyboard calling him awful terrible things on twitter behind an anonymous handle. Whatever it is it's 10x worse than Richard Sherman's so called thuggish behavior.

Richie Incognito is a dumbass and a bad person.

Richard Sherman isn't stupid and he knows exactly what he's doing, but he's just an asshole.

I can't say I'm a fan of how Richard Sherman reacted after that game, I'm not ... but his reaction didn't make him a criminal or thug to me ... it just seemed stupid. I get that he doesn't like Michael Crabtree, I get that Crabtree probably should have reacted differently to the handshake offer, but Crabtree is NOT a mediocre receiver by a longshot. Even Sherman has to know that. And Sherman might, indeed, be the best corner in the league. Sherman really gained nothing by his moronic reaction other than attention. A player of Sherman's quality should react the way Barry Sanders used to ... hand the ref the ball. Sanders didn't need a post-game tirade or anything else to let people know who he was ... Sherman can be that guy too.

I don't. I'm glad you made a separate thread for this. I think it's very much needed and the next thing ESPN should start talking about 24/7.

We now have 3 threads each on Sherman and Incognito because dave decided to repackage what dozens of other people have already pointed out elsewhere into his own word vomit repository.
