It has a retractable roof I believe.

EDIT: My mistake.. half of the roof is see through.. so that's pretty cool.

there were multiple designs that were proposed, some with retractable roofs, some with sliding roofs.

in the end they went with this design cause it saved money on the cost of building.

This is a lot different than a dome. The metrodome was dark and dreary. With the majority of the building being glass this will allow a ton of natural light through. I live in Arizona but thinking about coming up for the first game in the new stadium

its still not outdoors regardless, which I'm a little disappointed by...and indoor shadows suck too

Who cares about light when the snow and wind cant get through. Football stadiums being built by men who play with Barbies dreamhouse.
Best reason to have a license.

they closed it off cause they want this to be a year round building, and you can't have that if it was open.

while you could say "make the roof retractable" the fact is they didn't cause it saved them close to $100 million in construction costs. and with as much trouble as they had even getting the state to approve the stadium in the first place they made concessions to get it done.

The first pile of snow they get and that roof is going to be dark.

                  Leafs offseason training!

I don't believe it was ever supposed to be an open stadium.

Fuck the vikings and this stadium. They pulled some shady shit to get this thing approved.

I want an outdoor Vikings stadium, but that's just me being old. I get that they want concerts and other events in an indoor environment.

Its actually smart having it be an indoor stadium. The NFL and all its teams are fighting a losing battle against big screen TV's and couches. Football is one of the few things thats better to watch at home than at the stadium. With the brutal winters, that may convince some fans to stay in the warmth of their homes and watch it, whereas with the closed roof the Vikings can at least take away that aspect.
