Ravens bring back Eugene Monroe- $19M guaranteed

The Ravens simply couldn't let Eugene Monroe walk into free agency without bringing back a quality left tackle. Fortunately for them, they didn't.

CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reports the Ravens locked down Monroe on a five-year, $37.5 million deal that features $19 million in guaranteed money.

Monroe was acquired by Baltimore midway through 2013 for a fourth- and fifth-round pick from the Jaguars.

He didn't instantly turn the Ravens into a better pass protection or running team really but he was still an improvement over the debacle that was them trying to bring back Bryant McKinnie.

Monroe is still just 26, though, and could potentially develop into the franchise left tackle the Jaguars thought they were drafting. (And maybe he could've been that in Jacksonville, but the new Jaguars regime didn't want to commit the money to the possibility.)

Whatever the case, Baltimore now has a left tackle in their pocket to protect Joe Flacco and clear holes for Ray Rice.

Going into 2014 without acquiring someone would've been a major, major issue.
