    Broncos sign TJ Ward

The Broncos were manhandled for 60 minutes in Super Bowl XLVIII, and team executive John Elway went about rectifying that an hour into free agency when he announced that Denver had signed former Cleveland safety T.J. Ward.

The Browns, who drafted Ward in the second round of the 2010 draft, decided not to re-sign one of the best safeties in the game, and now he's a member of the defending AFC champs (meanwhile, Cleveland has gotten older on defense, replacing linebacker D'Qwell Jackson with Karlos Dansby and possibly looking for Donte Whitner to replace Ward).

The Broncos' defense ranked 15th overall in 2013, according to Football Outsiders, but was 21st against the pass. Ward, who ranked as the sixth-best safety in the league, according to ProFootballFocus.com, will certainly upgrade the unit bringing, as Elway describes, "energy and toughness" to the secondary.

Will be interesting to see what the terms are, but a great signing to upgrade the Broncos secondary.

Ward is a good football player. If he is making less than Whitner, its a steal. Bethea is better than Whitner, too, and just signed for under 6M.

T.J. Ward, signed this offseason by the Broncos to bring "energy and toughness" to a defense that was manhandled by the Seahawks in the Super Bowl, has a warrant out for his arrest, according to a report by Denver's CBS4.

According to documents reviewed by CBS4, Ward is wanted in connection with an incident that took place May 9 which is categorized both as an assault and disturbing the peace. The warrant became active Thursday. It was issued for Terrell R. Ward, T.J. Ward's real name. The date of birth on the warrant matches Ward's date of birth.

Court records reveal little about what prompted the issuance of the arrest warrant. However, sources say the warrant was issued in connection with a scuffle at a Denver nightclub.

The Broncos inked Ward to a $23 million deal after the Browns chose not to re-sign him. Denver's defense ranked 15th overall in 2013, according to Football Outsiders, but was 21st against the pass. Ward, who ranked as the sixth-best safety in the league, according toProFootballFocus.com, upgrades the unit bringing, as Elway describes, "energy and toughness" to the secondary.
