    Raiders sign James Jones

Former Packers wide receiver James Jones said over the weekend that he'd 'love' to play for the Carolina Panthers, but apparently the interest wasn't mutual. Instead, Jones is now headed for Oakland.

The wide receiver signed with the Raiders on Monday, the team announced. According to ESPN.com, the contract is a three year, $11.3 million deal.

Jones will be heading back to the Bay Area where he grew up. The 29-year-old went to high school in San Jose and attended college at San Jose State before being selected by the Packers in the third round of the 2007 NFL Draft.

Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie is familiar with Jones. McKenzie was in the Packers front office for five seasons (2007-11) while Jones was in Green Bay.

In Oakland, Jones will join a receiving corps that includes Rod Streater, Denarius Moore and Andre Holmes. Despite the quarterback troubles Oakland had in 2013, all three receivers managed to end the season with over 400 yards.

Jones has gone over the 400-yard mark in six of his seven career seasons, including last season, where he finished the year with a career-high 817 yards. In 2012, Jones led the NFL with 14 touchdown catches.

Receivers aren't terrible, just need a QB now.

Jones has always been a weird player to me.

He's not slow but he's not fast. He's not small but he's not big. He'll drop passes then come through a huge one every now and then.

Kinda reminds me of an older golden Tate.

I have no doubts TT will be able to replace Jones in this upcoming draft.

He doesn't need to. Cobb, Nelson and Boykin are set. Then you have a number of guys like White, Dorsey, Harper and a couple more that will fight for roster spots. Not saying he won't bring more guys in, but he doesn't have to make it a priority. WRs are a dime a dozen (with the obvious exceptions like the Calvin Johnson's of the world). Some do better than others, but it isn't hard to find a decent 3rd/4th/5th wideout.
