was he a GREAT QB? no

he was a decent QB because of his legs and ability to make plays when everything broke down. he wasn't a Great QB, but to act like he wasn't a hell of a football player is just hatred.

anyway, who says every quarterback has to be a pocket passer?
Pretty much every successful quarterback in the modern era.

You can be a good-great runner, but you also need to be excellent in the pocket. Players like Donovan McNabb understand(stood) this and developed their game to make throws from the pocket at a top shelf level. Michael Vick was one of the quarterbacks who didn't understand that which is why he would roll out of the pocket regular in an attempt to create space to throw a pass.

I'll take this in a different direction and say that, as much as I grew to hate him, Kordell Stewart was a better football player than Mike Vick. Kordell could run, pass, punt, catch...he could do it all when his head was right. He never developed as a passer, but he was a good WR and probably could have been a productive player in the league had he returned to his 'slash' role and not insisted on being a starting QB.

I don't understand why Vick fanboys insist on everyone saying Vick was a great player, when he didn't play WR, punt, return kicks, etc. What did he do other than kinda suck at QB?

Also, would you smash Becki? Would you smash Becki after she lost $35k?

Again. Vick was a player that ONLY played the QB position. If he was not a great QB it is logically impossible for him to be a "great player" because the only position he played, QB, he was not "great" at.

I thought the whole "lets ignore Vick's performance and regular season record and instead focus on Vick's postseason win total" already went too far, but this takes the cake.

So basically the Falcons beating possibly the worst playoff team in NFL history (the 2004 Rams, who were 8-8 and gave up nearly 100 more points than they scored) and another postseason win over a depleted Green Bay squad somehow lets us ignore all of Vick's shortcomings. Brilliant!
I'm far from a Vick fanboy, and no one said to ignore his shortcomings. I was making the point that they won more often than they lost when he played for them, and you included two seasons where he played a grand total of 4 games, not really fair to say he sucked in seasons he didn't even play.

I also didn't say shit about his postseason win total. A shitty team always shows it's a shitty team once the playoffs start, which ATL was, If Vick had rushed for 2000 yards there's still no way that team would ever have gone to a SB.

Even in Oak and Miami with a broken body Culpepper had a higher completion percentage than Vick.

Thats like a grandmother with broken fingers beating you at Madden.

I cant fathom a QB passing that little , in an insanely short passing game and barely hovering around 50% completion. When you consider how many of those were aimed at RBs and TEs its even scarier.

In your very super bestest most accurate year....your completion % is 27th in the league...2 spots behind Aaron Brooks a guy who used to get called for intentional grounding on passes he actually wanted to complete. Thats abysmal.

God forbid someone expect a lineman to block a WR to catch and a RB to run.
He was drafted at QB and was fully expected to become a reliable passer.

Being incapable of reading a defense , memorizing a play book , and lacking the work ethic to be able to complete with any regularity even the simplest of routes in the passing tree is why Vick never was never will be great anything.
Breaking a play because you have no clue where to go with the ball is not "making plays" its surviving.

"Just run around and make something happen" Barely works in HighSchool. Yet you were expecting a pro franchise to win games with it.

Nothing is more detrimental to a Receivers development than a QB who cant hit basic pass patterns and refuses to look past a second read.
Those Falcons WR were dragged through the mud by Vick fans only to magically become good players with a damn Rookie.

When a rookie QB can get more out of his WRs than a guy who reportedly spent 5-6 professional off seasons "absorbing" the passing game theres a problem.

Bottom line Vick backs have no argument that doesnt make them look absolutely bat shit crazy.
Best reason to have a license.

I don't hate Vick, I only hate his fanboys. And OBVIOUSLY I am not 'hating him for no reason'...I am trying to back up my arguments with facts. Perhaps you should try it? Otherwise, you are just an annoying twat...much more annoying than anyone in this thread who is 'hating' on Vick.

I don't think I ever brought up anything regarding Vick's personal life. Feel free to respond to any of the football-related comments I made about Mike Vick. Otherwise, if you can't discuss the football career of Mike Vick, then GTFO of this thread because all you are doing is trolling.

Ha! This is approaching Kobe-lovers level of lunacy. Saying that Vick was an "above average" player is not "hating" him. No one has wished death or disease on him or even personally attacked him. All that has been said is that he is not worth 10mil a year and that he was not a great QB, merely an above average one.

LOL at people thinking people who use facts to back up an argument "hate" Vick.

Exciting to watch? Yes, loved his SportsCenter highlights. Great player? No. The novelty of Vick running around like Flash really did help them win games the first couple years. The last couple, teams realized how to gameplan against him, he became an average qb at best and his team's record reflected that, 15-16 as a starter the last two seasons he played.

His running hurt the Falcons as often as it helped them. Yeah, he racked up a lot of rushing yards but he was among the most sacked quarterbacks in the league also. Many of those sacks were because he simply broke the pocket too soon and juked his way right into some defender's arms.

His failure to read a defense should be embarrassing to him. Too many times, if his primary receiver wasn't immediately open he just took off. Plays never developed. And out of ten times he would do this, he'd get sacked a 2 or 3 times, gain 5 yards or less a couple more times and heave an incompletion or two but one would turn into a long completion and one would be a 50 yard run and everyone would jizz in their pants over his athletic ability.

Even worse, he never learned how to put any touch on the passes he did throw. Full disclosure, Vick has a cannon for an arm & throws the prettiest looking ball I've ever seen but every pass was 100 mph. It was never any mystery to me why all those #1 receivers didn't pan out with him under center. He never seemed to realize that you can't always go with the heater. Oh, combine that with the fact that since he was on the run most of the time, he was just winging it and hence accuracy never became his strong suit.

No, every qb doesn't need to be a pocket passer. But every qb should know when to run and should definitely learn how to scramble, that is using that speed to buy time behind the LOS for his receivers to get open. He could become a far more dangerous qb if he did. Often at the qb position, the threat of being able to run is often more effective than actually running. As soon as Vick gets out of jail, if he wants to play qb then he should find as much footage of Steve Young as possible and watch it and watch it and watch it again until his eyes bleed.[/rant]
