New York Jets quarterback Michael Vick is too busy fighting for playing time to worry a jersey number.
Vick has worn No.7 since high school, but that is the same number second-year quarterback Geno Smith owns. When Vick signed with the Jets, he made it clear there would not be a battle for that number. Instead of offering Smith money, which traditionally occurs when a veteran wants to wear a specific number, Vick narrowed his choices to No. 3 and No. 8.
It appears Vick will wear No. 8, which the quarterback announced on his Instagram account before deleting that post:

According to ESPN.com, Vick is the seventh player in Jets history to wear No. 8. Mark Brunell, a backup in 2010 and 2011, was the last player to wear that number.
The only number Jets fans care about is wins and losses, and that definitely will not be determined by Vick’s jersey identification.
