Urban Meyer thinks '08 Gator team...

Urban Meyer thinks '08 Gator team that lost at home to Ole Miss is best CFB team ever

"I know some of you won state championships," he said. "I've been a part of a couple great teams, I think the best team that's ever played the game in '08. That was animal instincts taking over on the field. They protected each other."

Believe this was on CFB live the other day.

I would put a few of the Miami teams from the 80's-00's ahead of the '08 Gator team, for starters. I don't think the Florida team was all that talented, but they did have some good players. I would guess that Jackie Sherrill's Pitt teams from the early-80's would trounce Urban Meyer's Florida teams, so I can't really consider the 08 Gators amongst the best of all-time.

I mean they were a damn good team, and outright dominant after the Ole Miss game (Which I think that loss alone disqualifies them from consideration)... but there are a good amount of temas I would put over them.

The '08 Gators would not even be the best team from the State of Florida ('01 Miami, '99 FSU) and probably not the best Gator team either ('96 UF).

I'd take that USC team and Miami easily over Florida.

What else do you expect him to say? He's a part of one of the best teams to play. While I think we can all agree that they weren't hands-down the best like Meyer claims, if we were a part of that team I think we would feel the same way.

I would hope that not every title-winning coach would claim that his team was the greatest of all-time. Give me a break. UConn won the NCAA basketball title this past year...do you honestly think that Kevin Ollie and the players feel that the 2013 UConn Huskies are the greatest team in college basketball history? And if so, then that greatest ever feeling is justified?

So where would you rank them in terms of being the greatest? I guess that's the question that needs to be answered.

I think the question that needs to be answered is does anybody consider the 2008 Florida Gators to be the greatest college football team in history? Pretty simple. Whether I rank them #14 or #25 or #56 is immaterial. I definitely wouldn't rank them #1.

I put several Miami teams, a few Florida State teams, Nebraska from the 80's and maybe even a few others well ahead of them.

Then the coaches that want to say that to say it can have a dinner for schmucks.

Even the best gator teams have to include “but lost to” because, uh ya know... They have never had an undefeated season in the modern era.
