NFL to Coldplay - Pay to Play the Super Bowl

The NFL has no fucking shame. The only organizations greedier are the NCAA, FIFA & Congress. If I were one of these acts, I'd tell the league go to hell.

When I saw that last night, my first reaction was

The NFL doesn't pay halftime acts today. They play for free and get some exposure in exchange for their efforts. For the league to have the gall to request that bands pay them to play shows that the front office is disjointed from reality.

Look at how the league dealt with the concussion issue, changing the rules to generate more offense(which they hope will generate more fan interest/revenue), and the Ray Rice suspension. What you said isn't surprising.

I disagree. These people make shit tons of money from playing in the Super Bowl. Not only that but the nfl spends millions covering all their expenses and setting everything up for them to gain a ton of exposure and boost sales. If I'm the nfl, I make them pay. They can afford it and will still make a profit from doing the show regardless if whatever they pay.

Lol..If all these acts said no the NFL would be far worse off than any of the acts would be without a Halftime show. Yes of course its great exposure...but all these acts are already super established otherwise they would never be considered. NFL isnt uncovering talents here. Its another gross Goodell move.

I fucking hate the halftime show anyway. I prefer that talent turns down the NFL and we just get additional analysis during halftime. Or I can just take that time to get a quick run through Mrs. Leaf.

There've only been two halftime shows I gave a fuck about - Prince (because I'm a huge fan) and Bruno Mars (I wanted to see what all the fuss was about him).

As long as the demand is there, the NFL will act like King Kong and ring the sport for every penny they can get.

Who tells the great powerful NFL, 'NO!'?

And if every act says fuck off like they should? No halftime show? Unlikely scenario though, some record label will put the money behind some talentless pop act.

Both were great performances. Prince though

That's a big if and we all know that won't happen so your point is completely moot.

I had high hopes for the Aerosmith one until they put Britney Spears and N'Sync in it. Then they brought Mary J. Blige and Nelly out for the last song, which pissed me off even more because they would have been 1,000 times better replacing the 2 songs we had to deal with from N'Sync

NFL isnt the venue , they are the presenter/promoter. They pay the acts to come to juice up the 15-20 minutes people normally spend pissing and talking. The NFL is already getting paid because the increased eyeballs for halftime shows lead to increased ad rates. Its arrogance to say you need to pay us. NFL half times aren't showtime at the Apollo. Whether people do or not isnt the point , some dumbfuck exec will say hoorah and do it. Its the continuing greed and hubris by the post Tagliabue NFL that concerns me.
