NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Former Titans kicker Rob Bironas was pronounced dead at Vanderbilt Hospital after a late night crash in Nashville.

The 36-year-old was driving on Battery Lane when he lost control of his SUV, hit several trees and careened into a ravine.

The vehicle was upside down when Metro police arrived, according to spokesman Don Aaron.

Aaron tells Channel 4 News that Bironas was traveling at a high rate of speed when the crash occurred.

Investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors.

Bironas married Rachel Bradshaw, the daughter of NFL hall of famer Terry Bradshaw, in June.

A Metro police chaplain spoke with her shortly after the crash, according to Aaron.

Bironas spent nine years with the Titans, setting several NFL records along the way.

He was released from the team in March but continued to call the Nashville-area home.

The Titans could not immediately be reached for comment.

Absolutely awful. Crazy to think he just worked out for the Lions this past week too...might have been signed after today's game to with Freese missing a FG once again. RIP Bironas. Thoughts out to the family.

The timeline....

11:40PM - Rachel Bradshaw tells 911 that her husband is missing. She last spoke to him at about 9:40PM. (This fact contradicts the police report which says Bradshaw told an officer Bironas told her goodnight at 10:30PM)

Bradshaw could not find Bironas in the house, called around to relatives who did not know where he was. She said he was not intoxicated but did drink one beer earlier that night.

Meanwhile...

10:45PM - Bironas is seen chasing & threatening a pickup truck with 4 people inside. One of them, a college student, calls 911 to report that he saw a police car stop Bironas moments after the incident. A passenger in the truck, another student, said they were riding behind Bironas when they noticed a burning smell coming from Bironas' vehicle.

They pulled up beside Bironas to let him know when they were told "I'm going to kill everybody in your fucking vehicle" twice by Brionas.

The pickup turned off the road but Bironas followed them and they sped up to get away from him, he still chased after them.They say Bironas nearly sideswiped them. Finally, with them driving through a residential area, police appeared to have pulled Bironas over (he was not stopped by police), because they saw flashing blue lights. The police department has no record of any traffic stop here.

11:00PM - Shortly after the prior incident, Bironas nearly hit a car when changing lanes and stared at the husband and wife couple inside. The woman pulled over and Bironas pulled over, too. The husband got out of the car but Bironas sped off. The couple went down the road and came across the car accident.

Toxicology reports are pending.

Dude went off the deep end, such a crazy story. The police department likely has no record of the stop because whoever pulled him over likely knew who he was. Even coming across an NFL kicker is a big deal, so he probably let him go without calling it in.

This is just bizarre. Either he had serious mental issues, was under the influence of drugs/alcohol or both.
