Panthers quarterback Cam Newton injured in uptown car wreck

A car crashed and overturned on the Church Street bridge over I-277 about 12:30 p.m. and ambulances are on the scene. A second car involved in the crash is also in the road, near Hill Street.

An Observer photographer at the scene said Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was injured in the wreck.

Rescuers have closed outbound Church Street at Stonewall.

He's being transported to an area hospital in Charlotte. His vehicle apparently was overturned in the wreck.

Cam is out this weekend. He ended up with 2 fractures in his back-

That sucks especially after he finally had a great week. They say football is like being in a car wreck though, in case you didn't hear the ESPN analysts say it 1000 times today.
