    Jags, Torry Holt near deal

The Jacksonville Jaguars are nearing a deal for free agent wide receiver Torry Holt, but it has not yet been finalized, sources tell ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are nearing a deal for free agent wide receiver Torry Holt, but it has not yet been finalized, sources tell ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Holt was released by the St. Louis Rams on March 13 shortly before he was due a $1.25 million roster bonus on the 17th.

Holt, a seven-time Pro Bowl selection, ranks 11th on the league's all-time reception list with 869 catches.

The 10-year veteran caught just 64 passes last year for 796 yards and three touchdowns, the fewest scoring catches of his career. His total receptions and total yards were the second-lowest of his career, ahead of only his rookie season of 1999.

The Jaguars are in need of a veteran receiver. The team released troubled receiver Matt Jones last month after he violated a plea agreement from an earlier drug charge. They also released Jerry Porter and didn't re-sign free agent Reggie Williams.

Yea, if the season started today the jags starting receivers would be Northcutt and Walker. Great signing.

It would be the first real signing of a reciever since Jimmy Smith was on the team for so many years...

        "Reggie and Matt? Bitch please..."

...my only concern would be how Jacksonville plans on upgrading their O-Line after the disaster of last season.

Holt is a great option to throw to but if Garrard is on his ass more times than not, then there'd be little point in signing the former Rams star.

...then again, the team needs a lot of rebuilding work now.

Nice move by them indeed. I thought he may go to Tennessee, but good job on the Jags part.

I hung out with Torry Holt and Terrance Holt on Friday night. Terrance is a funny mother fucker. Adrian Wilson, Mario Williams, Tank Tyler, Sean Locklear, and Andre Brown were all there too. Others might of been there but I was pretty wasted to talk to everyone.

Good move if we can actually sign him, but I still would like to get Crabtree or Maclin in the first round,

Damn I am pretty fucking stoked right now. I'd like to see Jacksonville take BJ Raji in the first round now and pick up someone like Kenny Britt or Percy Harvin if they can fall to the second round.

This signing will make more of an impact if the Jags bring in Crabtree or Maclin. He's too old, banged up and slow to be the main weapon. Decent pick up, nothing special.

                              Good signing.

Jags are a power run team first...all they need Holt for is sure catches. If they can get a rookie in the 2nd or 3rd round to couple with Holt, Northcutt, and Mike Walker, that is all we'll need if that running game steps up.
