    Eagles get CB Hobbs

The Patriots have acquired two fifth round picks (137 and 141) from the Eagles in exchange for veteran CB Ellis Hobbs.

from the Patriots Twitter, they then traded the two picks to Baltimore to jump up and grab Rich Ohrnberger, OL, Penn State.

Hobbs will give the Eagles a great returner and an above average corner. He will be playing along side Asante Samuel again. Only reason I see why the patriots did this is because we have a lot of depth at cornerback with Springs,Bodden,Butler,Wheatley, and Wilhite(sp). And because Hobbs' contract is expiring after this year so might as well get something in return for him.

this is true, but a returner is the last thing the eagles need. we now have quintin demps, desean jackson, and jeremy maclin, all great return men.

not too happy about this trade. Sure, trade ellis, i'm ok with that. He's severely undersized and doesn't get picked on as much by the media because he's the only CB on the patriots who had talent last year, but at least get some kind of value for him. 2 5th round picks? really?

What else would we of got for him though. We wouldnt of got a 1st or 2nd. We did go and trade those two 5th for a 4th a beleive so we pretty much traded Hobbs for a 4th which is decent value in my opinion. Better to get something than nothing and just have him leave after this year.

So we traded Hobbs for Rich Ohrnberger. I'll remember that name.

lol you could be right. I wont really miss his corner skills but I will miss his ability to return kicks though. He was probably one of the best in the league at doing it and gave the patriots great field position a lot of times. However I do not think his Corner skills are that good. Like Yawkey said he didnt get a bad rap this past season because he was the number 1 corner back in New England, but then again when you are playing alongside Deltha O'Neal he will make you look like a pro bowler, but when he was playing alongside Asante Samuel everyone would get on his back and they questioned weather he could be a starting corner. I was much more mad when we decided to let Randall Gay and Asante Samuel go last year.

That is just my opinion on the trade because I never thought Hobbs was more than a average to above average corner at best.

I think Ellis Hobbs is equivalent to Sheldon Brown, so since Sheldon might want out of Philly, then Ellis is the perfect replacement

On whether he is happy about his contract:

“Not at all. It is definitely frustrating when you see guys getting certain amounts of money that you know you can get just as much that you deserve. Especially, some of the situations that I’ve been in as far as playing through injuries, a torn shoulder, a torn groin all of the way throughout the season, and this and that. To take some of the blows that I did from the area and the community and to put it on the line day in and day out when I know some other guys were not doing that and to get the money you get, you are definitely not happy with it. That is what it is and I am getting paid more than a lot of people in this world are and that will come.”
This is from a conference call they had with Hobbs after he was traded. Seems like he wasnt happy with his contract which could of lead to the patriots trading him but I could be way off.

Close Sheldon is a lil better or steadier but Hobbs is def. good enough to replace him
