Jon Gruden intends to coach again, but until that day, the man known throughout the NFL as "Chucky" will get to sharpen his teeth in ESPN's "Monday Night Football" booth.

    Jon Gruden

    Gruden

Gruden will join play-by-play man Mike Tirico and analyst Ron Jaworski in September, replacing Tony Kornheiser, who has decided to step down after three years.

"This is a tremendous opportunity and I am very excited to be associated with ESPN and Monday Night Football," Gruden said in a statement released by ESPN. "I grew up a fan of Monday Night Football, and whether I've coached on Monday night or watched, I've hardly missed a game all these years.

"To join Mike and Jaws in the booth and to work alongside this top-notch team is going to be a real thrill."

Gruden was fired by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Jan. 16 and replaced by defensive coordinator Raheem Morris just weeks after the Bucs' season-ending loss to the Oakland Raiders cost them a possible playoff spot.

At 60-57 in seven seasons, Gruden was the winningest coach in Bucs history and led Tampa Bay to victory in Super Bowl XXXVII. He also has coached the Raiders.
He can't be any worse, right?

Well, he's a "football guy" and this is what fans complained about Kornheiser not being. Having watched Gruden on different shows though, he's okay... he's a little edgy, but he'll be okay. However, I'm one of those people who really don't focus too much on who's doing the game, so....

Blasphemy! Seems like everyone here is more concerned with the announcers, than the game itself.

Kornheiser was reprehensible. People might not have liked Howard Cosell as a person, but at least he knew his football. Not only was/is Kornheiser one of the most unlikable people on sports television, he also had no clue what he was talking about. Sure, Kornheiser may be above doing things such as weekly research, talking to players before the game, hanging out with coaches, etc....but by God, couldn't he have just read the Monday morning USA Today and known SOMETHING?

I'm NOT a big fan of Jaws but Gruden will be pretty cool in the booth.
              I give rep not thanks

Tony is tons better when he's no constantly trying to be funny; I love PTI for that very resaon - him and Wilbon clash very evenly, and they touch on a wide spectrum of things, which I believe is Tony's homecourt.

Alas, centered and focused on one thing in a booth with two guys who know the game just as much or if not better than you is challenging. At least he'll still have PTI.

On top of that, the guys is always screaming, like Stephen A. Smith, and losses his voice alot because of that.

They should have a split screen of the game on 1 side and Gruden's face on the other during the game, thats good tv

Not feeling this idea.. I was one of the few ppl that actually enjoyed Kornheiser tho, so I guess it might work for Gruden fans. Hes a good talker tho so it has potential I suppose. Dude should stick to coaching tho.. dont stay out of the game for too long.
