    Deangelo Hall on the Raiders

Kind of amusing.. doesn't discount the fact Hall is one of the most overrated players to ever suit up in the NFL.. but still amusing nonetheless.

Washington Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall probably won’t have to worry about receiving any Christmas cards from enigmatic Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis.

Especially not after the former Raiders starter poked fun at Davis during a radio interview with WJFK, according to SportsRadioInterviews.com.

Hall related how Davis allegedly got up to speed on Tom Cable’s background in the middle of elevating him to interim coach in the wake of firing coach Lane Kiffin.

“Probably the funniest thing, I was pretty close to Lane Kiffin and after they fired Lane and were about to announce who the next coach was, I don’t know if you guys saw this in the media world, but I was actually sitting there live, me and a couple other players there in the back,” Hall said. “And [Davis] went through this whole spiel of what happened . . . and said our next coach is Tom Cable, he’s going to be our interim coach. When everybody paused for Tom to come in, like a breakoff. [Davis] goes to the media guide and not even whispering says ‘Hey, anyone got any information on this Tom Cable guy, I don’t know where he comes from.’

“That’s just vintage Al Davis. Making a move, not really knowing why, no real justification for doing it. But just saying, ‘Hey, I want this guy, let’s get him, I’ll figure everything else out later.’ And that’s just how Al Davis is.”

Hall made $8 million in eight games with the Raiders prior to being cut. Despite the lofty financial windfall garnered from his brief sojourn in Oakland, Hall is extremely glad to be out of there.

“Oh, it’s a weight off my shoulders, just that whole situation out there and the way they did things,” Hall said. “I’m not knocking it, but it wasn’t what I was accustomed to, what I was used to, and I just started just not caring like a bunch of other guys, you know. It kind of rubs off on you.

“They say you go to Oakland as a player to die. You can definitely go there and have fun towards the end of your career, but to go there during the prime of your career, that’s just not a place you want to be. I felt the same when I was out of there, just a sigh of relief to get out of there.”

I thought it was when he shut down TO on MNF 3-4 years ago (Owens had like 12 catches for 140 yards or something but no touchdowns so it was considered 'shut down')

no it was a "shut down" because he didn't have any catches in the second half. Those 12 catches and 140 yards were all in the first half

Somebody find the box or play by play for this one cuz I remember watching that game & believe this is complete bullshit. IIRC, all the praise he got that night was cuz he didn't get beat deep, to which I kept rolling my eyes cuz Owens just kept making plays & moving his team down the field. Hall has always been ridiculously overrated.

The more I think about it, the more i think it was Chad Johnson who had 100 yards in the first half and none in the second and hall said he "shut him down"

Either way, his definition of "shut down" is drastically different from the rest of the world

Deangelo Hall a zone nickel back who has been overrated from day one because he seems cool to the teens.
Talks a bigger game than he plays.
Quitting on a team or not caring is inexcusable.
                          His teammate (Asomaugha) didn't quit.

The simple fact is this, Hall can't play man coverage and got exposed badly in Oakland because no one dares throw at Asomaugha. In Atlanta, he lived off his undeserved rep and didn't get exposed as badly, because Atlanta never had a great second CB.

I still can't believe Washington threw that much money at this stiff.

                            Found this on Wikipedia:

One of Hall's finest moments came when he was assigned to one of the NFL's premier wide receivers, Terrell Owens of the Philadelphia Eagles, on Monday Night Football. Although Owens gained 112 receiving yards, Hall was able to stop Owens on many of the Eagles' third down attempts, and his tight coverage of Owens on the last Eagle possession of the game helped Atlanta clinch a 14-10 victory on September 12, 2005. Hall allowed three catches on nine pass attempts towards Owens when playing man-to-man. The next time they met, Owens beat Hall for two touchdowns in December 2006.
Honestly, I'm doubting the validity of him only allowing 3 catches on 9 attempts when playing TO man-to-man. And even though, making some stops on 3rd down is nice, I wouldn't exactly call it a "shut down."
