    Boxing-vs-UFC/MMA

Which is bigger/better? Is Boxing dying? UFC-vs-Boxer...who wins? etc. Discuss all of that in here. It came up in the JTV room and people wouldn't stfu about it so I made a thread.

    Discuss.

UFC would win in my opinion. UFC is a lot more entertaining in my opinion. there's punching, kicking, clinching, submissions and everything but in boxing it's just punching

Boxing is dying. Even Stevie Wonder could see that.

A washed up De La Hoya v Manny reached number 1 in sales out of the two "sports" .

UFC did have 7 out of the top 10 which is an amazing effort but thats another issue

To say its dying is redicolous , when Boxing put out two of its better fighters it took number 1 in sales , imagine if they put Manny and Floyd together .

Doesnt sound like dying to me

Talk about beating a dead horse and trying to incite a riot in creating this topic, lol. Obviously the fans of each sport are very passionate and feel a certain way towards boxing or MMA. At the end of the day what does it matter? MMA fighter vs a boxer is a silly debate to begin with, because they're two different sports. Boxing in MMA is a lot different than the boxing used in the sport itself, it has to be adapted and tweaked a bit for MMA. So, there's not a single MMA fighter who could transfer over to the ranks of boxing and beat anyone credible right off the bat. Same goes for a boxer venturing to MMA, the sport is far too vast and in-depth for any boxer to step in a cage and beat a credible opponent with only boxing skills to bear.

As far as popularity goes, boxing still has a huge fan following, possibly even larger than MMA at this point. The big difference is the talent pool between the two sports. Sure there's 3 or 4 boxers who are capable of pulling larger numbers than any MMA fighter, but that's all boxing has. After those 3 or 4 guys the drop-off in popularity is tremendous. Therefore MMA is on the uprise whereas boxing has certainly peaked and is very likely to start dropping off in the near future.

Boxing isn't dying...they still do well.

UFC is growing, and they are doing well.

As for MMA v. Boxing...depends on the arena...boxer wins in a boxing match, MMA wins in an MMA match.

Yep. I should also clarify that it's not so much the lack of good boxers that are hurting the sport, it's the structure of the business and the horrible marketing that's put behind those guys. The boxing business model is very archaic. That's boxings pitfall.

3 main reasons why MMA is beating boxing AT THE MOMENT:

                              1. Marketing - The UFC markets its fighters and often pits major guys against eachother. Shows like Ultimate Fighter build up fighters as actual people with personalities and weekly shows not only show new fights, but also classic fights many might not have seen. All this does is get their faces out there.

                              2. Lack of fighters - Right now, boxing only has about 4 major fighters and if they aren't on the card, the PPV doesn't get much of a draw. On the other hand, even in terribly thin weight classes like Heavyweight, the UFC can actually go without the best heavyweight in the world and still make major draws. They just have depth at multiple weight classes and don't need to only have 4 fighters to get by.

                              3. TOO MANY BELTS! - Boxing has too many belts and quite frankly, the people that fans actually want to see fight eachother never do. On the other hand, there is really only the UFC in MMA in America (yes, I know there are others, but UFC is far and away number 1). They know that their belts are the biggest and best and often put them on the line. People get to see Rampage vs Liddell, Penn vs. GSP, Lesnar vs. Coutior (sp), and people love the UFC for it.
