Edmonton gave up way to much for Heatley so I think it is good for them that he said no. Penner and Cogliano are good guys and not worth giving up just to get one star.

Cogliano is great, Smid is a solid young guy but totally expendable, and getting rid of Penner would practically be an acquisition for Edmonton.

Gotta agree with the rest here. Penner hasn't produced since we signed him, Smid was never going to replace Pronger and has been the 4/5th d-man the last two years. I love Cogliano (thank god I didn't get him on my jersey like I was going to), but when you can get a guy like Heatley, you do it.

Wants to, however wants multiyear deal.

Kane/Toews are RFA's after this season, they get paid big next year. So they can't figure out a deal where both sides are happy.

This is where some logic comes into play from people who are not in the NHL. All these guys want to win the Cup, yet are they going to take a pay cut to do so? Like Hossa. Guy can take $4million and stay on the second place team that is basically all in tact, yet wants more money. Yet he went to the Wings to win a cup, so what is more important? Winning the cup or $3M?

I can't wait to see the absurdity of Hossa's contract. It's going to be like 56M over the first 8 years and the last 4 years will be like 1M a year. NHL has to fix that. It's a HUGE loophole.
