“Alan was a very tough fighter. The damage of the low blow in the beginning of the fight was quite strong. I thought that if he hit me there again I wouldn’t be able to continue the fight. I wanted to take a large break but there was confusion during the fight. I misunderstood the referee saying five minutes in English as five seconds, I continued the fight urgently but this took a big toll on the exhaustion of my physical strength. My eye got injured when I got downed on the first round by a left. I felt an abnormality in my eye after the end of the 1st round. One eye was closed so I didn’t know about my sense of distance. Because I couldn’t see any attacks from my opponent’s right side I received a lot of leg kicks from that side. I didn’t continue with the game plan, the only reason I won was my feeling that I really didn’t want to lose this fight. After the fight when I was in the hospital, Dana White came personally and told me first hand that me and Belcher’s fight was elected as the fight of the night. I was very happy…. Alan is the toughest fighter I have faced and I’m proud to have been able to fight him. I will devote myself from now on so please support me.”

I could see where you could have Belcher winning, but robbery?
yeah that was crap, how ever it gives me the inpresstion hes not going to get any breaks. hes going to have to string 5-6 wins in a row and just kinda slap dana in the face befor he gets a sniff at a title shot.

          I had it 29-29.

          1: 10-10
          2: Akiyama
          3: Belcher

Neither side would have had any gripe, it was a close fight. Judges fear the draw, most of them are afraid to score a 10-10 round, but that's bullshit. Either switch to half points, or score the even rounds 10-10. The current system is broken.

And like I said earlier in the thread, anyone complaining about the 30-27 judge (Joe Rogan) dosn't understand scoring. Any of those rounds could have gone either way, so its not inconceivable that one judge saw Akiyama win all 3. You can think a fight is razor thin close and still score it 30-27.

              You can. 10x3 = 30. 9x7=27. Still a close fight.

If that's what you are referring to?

It is, but nobody realizes it. I don't recall the last time I saw a score from a UFC judge that had a 10-10 round on it, but it is becoming very popular on the MMA websites who score the fights (Sherdog, BloodyElbow, etc). Hell, half the time I forget it's an option when I am scoring, just because I know it's never going to happen. The last draw round I can think of was Tito vs Rashad because he got docked a point (9-9)

Also, the way the UFC explains the rules is something like 'the round winner gets 10 points, with the loser getting 9 or less'. Which is inaccurate in how it can actually be scored from my understanding

Well, that just illustrates my point.

These judges fear the 10-10 round, because nobody wants to score a draw. It's silly, and isnt really fair. When you think about it, there are alot of MMA rounds that are even rounds. Whenever you find yoursefl saying, "I'd hate to have to score that round", it should probably be 10-10.

Now, if you want to further eliminate the possibility of draws, scoring should be adjusted like this:

10-10: too close to call, or nothing really happening
                    10-9: very close round
10-8: one fighter clearly wins the round, generally what is considered a 10-9 currently
10-7: one fighter dominates, nearly finishes. the current 10-8.

This way, if a fighter has one of those killer rounds, he is highly unlikely to lose unless he gets stopped.

Judges fear the 10-10, and they fear the 10-8. In a 3 or 5 round environment, 10-8's should be more common to ensure dominance has impact.

I scored it 30-24 for Akiyama, he dominated the action and the sexyness, thats a 10-8 round if I ever seen one

MMA scoring is so crappy right now, the judges dont know whats going on half the time (Cecil Peoples) and like W2B said judges are afraid of a 10-10 round and you rarely see a 10-8 round scored

There are so many rounds both fighters do nothing and it gets a 10-9, or rounds were 2 guys are even and both landing quality shots and takedowns, etc...

Akiyama out classed Belcher i though, his combos were much more accurate and crisp.

most the room I was in hated the guy for 3 reasons (1 I was drunk and yelling Sexyama, 2 "Dumb Jap dont know he can elbow from the ground" and 3 Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg told them Belcher was winning the fight.

also i took points for his horrid Fat Albert Tatoo

I had Akiyama winning the first and Belcher the last two. If I remember correctly, either way I think Belcher had a better fight overall, just barellyyy.
